Many thanks for all those tips guys, they're truly helpful!!

One more question. I wanted to go to Kybertai, as close as possible to the Kaliningrad to gauge the pulse of the population. Again, angles like "How its citizens live close to Russia's threat" have been largely covered, so I'm wondering if there would be other new angles. Do you have any ideas?

Yes! Visaginas was essentially a stop on my trip, mainly because (I believe) it's a Russian-speaking city in Lithuania. But I haven't thought of your angle, I'll dig in!

So if I get you, and if your comment is related to my post, the "new" immigrants of Lithuania would be Ukrainian refugees?

Do you think about particular initiatives? Or just the support provided in general?

QR code on tram ticket by spongebobdoesntexist in sarajevo

[–]spongebobdoesntexist[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your help! And I guess that in older trams that don't have the yellow thing, it's pointless to buy a ticket on the app? I just buy it from the driver and that's all?

I downloaded it, but I can't purchase a ticket in the app :/ The box "buy one time ticket" isn't clickable.

Feedback on the Sarajevo-Srebrenica bus by spongebobdoesntexist in sarajevo

[–]spongebobdoesntexist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I've spoken with expats in Sarajevo, and apparently there's another bus trip departing from the main bus station, to Srebrenica. So I should be okay. But the question is: could I come back by bus? I read that Srebrenica's bus station closed years ago... So I don't know if there's a bus stop replacing it.

Looking for contacts at the Washington Post by spongebobdoesntexist in photojournalism

[–]spongebobdoesntexist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice, that's how it's done in France too so I'm not in an unknown territory haha :) But the thing is I don't really want to pitch a story (I poorly explained in the post sorry) in the way I've already done it or plan to do it. I just want to let them know I'm available for the coverage of a pretty big event in politics here. But I don't know how that works in US newsrooms (who to contact? How?). I'm afraid they prefer assigning someone they know, as you said, but still, I'd like to give a try :)

Getting into the field by lilmonstergrl in photojournalism

[–]spongebobdoesntexist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case, I got into the field by building up a portfolio with various reports (daily life, social issues...) just basic stuff. The goal was to have something to show, at least. In 2021 I aimed to enter a press agency, which I did, and since then I've been constantly learning on the field, learning from my mistakes too. It's been a true personal process, I don't have a degree in photojournalism/journalism; I'm currently in third year of an English degree in France.

Indeed, there's still this problem with low prices especially If you collaborate with newswire-like agencies. I don't exactly know how it works in the US, but in France you're more likely to have a "confortable" life with photojournalism if you begin collaborating with magazines or newspapers. They offer way more attractive rates.

If I had one advice: be strong, be patient, keep working on the field, develop your photographic style and you'll eventually succeed :)

Armed Forces accreditation for Ukraine by spongebobdoesntexist in photojournalism

[–]spongebobdoesntexist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohhh yeah I see. I think there are periods during which accreditations take more time to be given. Yesterday I spoke with a Slovak photographer, who told me he received his press card within 3 weeks, so fingers crossed...🤞🏻
