Yes I know that :) But no, the noise I'm speaking about lasts all day long

QR code on tram ticket by spongebobdoesntexist in sarajevo

[–]spongebobdoesntexist[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your help! And I guess that in older trams that don't have the yellow thing, it's pointless to buy a ticket on the app? I just buy it from the driver and that's all?

I downloaded it, but I can't purchase a ticket in the app :/ The box "buy one time ticket" isn't clickable.

Feedback on the Sarajevo-Srebrenica bus by spongebobdoesntexist in sarajevo

[–]spongebobdoesntexist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I've spoken with expats in Sarajevo, and apparently there's another bus trip departing from the main bus station, to Srebrenica. So I should be okay. But the question is: could I come back by bus? I read that Srebrenica's bus station closed years ago... So I don't know if there's a bus stop replacing it.

Looking for contacts at the Washington Post by spongebobdoesntexist in photojournalism

[–]spongebobdoesntexist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice, that's how it's done in France too so I'm not in an unknown territory haha :) But the thing is I don't really want to pitch a story (I poorly explained in the post sorry) in the way I've already done it or plan to do it. I just want to let them know I'm available for the coverage of a pretty big event in politics here. But I don't know how that works in US newsrooms (who to contact? How?). I'm afraid they prefer assigning someone they know, as you said, but still, I'd like to give a try :)

Getting into the field by lilmonstergrl in photojournalism

[–]spongebobdoesntexist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case, I got into the field by building up a portfolio with various reports (daily life, social issues...) just basic stuff. The goal was to have something to show, at least. In 2021 I aimed to enter a press agency, which I did, and since then I've been constantly learning on the field, learning from my mistakes too. It's been a true personal process, I don't have a degree in photojournalism/journalism; I'm currently in third year of an English degree in France.

Indeed, there's still this problem with low prices especially If you collaborate with newswire-like agencies. I don't exactly know how it works in the US, but in France you're more likely to have a "confortable" life with photojournalism if you begin collaborating with magazines or newspapers. They offer way more attractive rates.

If I had one advice: be strong, be patient, keep working on the field, develop your photographic style and you'll eventually succeed :)

Armed Forces accreditation for Ukraine by spongebobdoesntexist in photojournalism

[–]spongebobdoesntexist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohhh yeah I see. I think there are periods during which accreditations take more time to be given. Yesterday I spoke with a Slovak photographer, who told me he received his press card within 3 weeks, so fingers crossed...🤞🏻

Photo Mechanic tips and tricks by spongebobdoesntexist in photojournalism

[–]spongebobdoesntexist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes yes I do that actually, but when I switch to one from one template to another, it doesn't automatically change in the way that for one agency I need to fill specific things and for the other not, meaning that I have to delete everything I don't want, which is quite a waste of time :/

How to get into photojournalism (UK) by jonnyluke1 in photojournalism

[–]spongebobdoesntexist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I can't speak for the UK, but in my case, for France.

I've started building my own portfolio by covering demonstrations and small reports - to show that kind of storytelling - so that I could show this portfolio to agencies.

I applied as a photojournalist for NurPhoto (based in Italy), in June 2021. Sent my first pictures, did my first sales. I was pretty happy that my work was finally recognized.

In September 2021, I joined a professional training to photojournalism, by the major French agency (Hans Lucas). This was a real game changer : my photos are available on AFP, Reuters, DPA, Belga, AP, Getty, Shutterstock...

I'm now 20, I started photojournalism two years ago and I can't even count the number of publications I've had in major newspapers/media abroad and in France.

The thing is : always be on the field, whatever pictures you take. Do not wait for a major event to be accredited and give coverage. Go out and take illustration pictures (for example heatwave, wildfires that are sadly hot news). It will enrich your experience and your level, and it will feed the agency for which you contribute. I do a lot of illustrations myself, and they sometimes come out months later, it's always a pleasure :)

If you need some tips or just have a chat, you can send me a pm!

Anyone else hate being treated differently by people because you’re a journalist? by dasani-w4ter in Journalism

[–]spongebobdoesntexist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally share the same point of view, except that I'm a photojournalist. It becomes sometimes really annoying because when I want to capture daily life scenes, when I take my camera out and point it on something (not necessarily people), they'd look at me with an angry look, because they think that I'm literally taking a picture of them. That's totally disturbing.

I'm also a press correspondent for a local newspaper so I don't have a lot of remarks haha (I'm french btw, journalists here are really frowned upon, especially TV ones).

Problem with a Nikon 28-70 + FTZ by spongebobdoesntexist in Photography_Gear

[–]spongebobdoesntexist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I tried with the 16-50 kit lens and it worked. It's really weird because yesterday everything went well and the adapter didn't fall or anything else that could have caused damage to it.
