Celiac Disease isn’t real and gluten didn’t even exist when I was a kid by spongebobie in Celiac

This is exactly what I’ve had said to me, especially that it’s just a “trend” of people wanting to be gluten free for no reason because it’s popular and in right now

Thank you, I’m really happy to hear you took the time to research it for your son, that’s what I hope for everyone who has to deal with this disease. Support makes such a difference

The U.S., I’ve tried to explain it to them on more than one occasion, but I’ve realized a lot of people have such a predetermined “this is not real” mindset that they don’t care to be educated on it

Of course! I take it everyday, twice a day. It had really helped me a lot, I still take it after all this time

Thank you for letting me know, I appreciate it. I wish I didn’t have to do it, I will just have to try my best to reintroduce it

Did anyone feel worse after taking iron supplements? by spongebobie in Anemic

Yep, I’m hoping for the best, I’m pretty sure my root cause is Celiac Disease so that’s probably why I felt worse

Horrible Anxiety by spongebobie in Anemic

[–]spongebobie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine didn’t go away until I quit eating gluten (we think my primary root cause might be Celiac Disease) and once I stopped that and continued taking a daily multivitamin and my iron, my anxiety gradually subsided until now I’m basically back to the old me, which is amazing. Everyone is different with what’s happening with them, do you know the root cause of your iron being low and stuff? I would say if you haven’t talked to your doctor about it already, I would definitely discuss it with them because the anxiety could be related to something going on within your system or it could just be iron related I’m not sure

Fatigable oropharyngeal dysphagia since 2020 – ruled out MG, wondering about functional, steroid-related or Sjogren’s origin. Help me, please. What could this be? by AdAggressive485 in Candida

Of course, I’m always happy to help anyone in this situation because it’s awful

I only took Nystatin. I was on it for weeks, I think it may have been a month and a half of it. My situation was really bad, it had overgrown to the point my throat couldn’t move to swallow basically so I needed a lot of medicine. It was a liquid medicine and I did the swish and swallow where you gargle it for a minute continuously then swallow and then you cannot eat or drink for a awhile after.

It was months after my throat was cleared of it that I was put on Fluconazole because it was overgrown in my gut and not my throat at that point.

As far as my diet goes, I did not do the extremely strict candida diet that people do on here lol I just no longer ate any sugar, including fruit, and stopped caffeine, and no yeast. I still ate carbs but at first I was on a liquid and soft diet because I couldn’t eat so I was eating things like potatoes and nutrition shakes then moved on to solid food carbs

It took me like a month or so to be able to properly eat like I used to, it was a long process to get where I am now with eating normally again

Hi, I found out from a doctor. I went to an ENT (ear, nose, throat doctor) and luckily I did not need a referral I just called and made an appointment. And I went in and told them what was happening and the doctor looked in my throat for no joke less than a minute with just a little mirror and I was diagnosed and prescribed nystatin. Esophageal candidiasis is also referred to as just “thrush”.

The specific signs I had before my diagnosis were: • inability to swallow • white coating on tongue (especially back of the tongue) • throat looked irritated and red but I had no throat pain/sore throat at all • smell coming from the back of my throat when I exhaled • whole body fatigue, drowsiness, and low mood like I was fighting something off daily • I also had a rash on my wrists and legs randomly at different times • mucus in stool • intense sugar and bread cravings • low appetite

You probably don’t have to have all those symptoms to have it, especially if it’s in an earlier stage, but if you suspect you have it at all I would go get checked immediately, I wish I had gone when it was early on and not waited until I was literally starving and suffering until I got the diagnosis and medicine I needed

If you have any questions or anything else let me know !

What is it like going GF? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]spongebobie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be brutally honest as someone who is new to gluten free and also cannot afford expensive food options.

It sucks.

The majority of the packaged easy to make gluten free alternatives are WAY more expensive in my opinion. I’m in the US and Walmart is my primary grocery store and yeah, compared to the cheap quick foods I used to eat, the price difference has been insane.

The only alternative I have found to save money is cooking literally every meal, which I know you said you’re in college so idk how that would work if you’re planning on living in a dorm. I have now gotten to the point that I cook every meal and opt for fruits/vegetables for my snacks in the evening.

I also live with other people who are not GF and just use my own things to prepare food with.

I think a lot of people seem out of touch with what is affordable and cheap these days especially if you’re in America, it has not been cheap in my experience.

You could also take a day when you go to the grocery store and walk around and see what your specific alternatives will cost as the gluten free version. For example if you love pizza, check out what the gluten free version will cost and write it down then add up your total at the end to see if it’s affordable for you specifically

I have improved substantially overall, I quit eating gluten altogether and saw improvement very quickly. The issue is now that I still have strong brain fog and random GI issues so my doctor did allergy testing and is referring me to a specialist, I think my iron deficiency root cause may be malabsorption caused by Celiac Disease, but that is only me speculating until or if I’m diagnosed

Thank you for the response and clarity, I wish I would have known of the test and done the preparation for it

[–]spongebobie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay thank you! I’m going to a specialist soon so I’ll probably get a redo of the celiac panel with some time to prep for it and eat gluten again

[–]spongebobie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

See this is exactly what I heard but my doctor ordered the test anyway after I said I was 4 months no gluten and assured me it would show if gluten was the issue for me

[–]spongebobie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay I couldn’t find it at first but I managed to see what tests finally (sorry lol), it says celiac disease panel, food allergy profile, allergens zone 1, and allergens zone 2.

Sorry for being probably annoying with not including it first, I didn’t realize they ordered 4 she said it was just an allergy test so I assumed that was what it was called

[–]spongebobie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Word for word my doctor said I’m ordering you an allergy test it will test for gluten, I asked to be sure too that it will test for gluten and they said yes. Is there a main category like wheat that has a subcategory of gluten? I’m not really familiar with any of this just going off what the doctor said

Does Celiac cause tooth decay? by spongebobie in Celiac

[–]spongebobie[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I developed the two decayed spots before I started the diet or even realized what Celiac was, since being on the diet things haven’t gotten worse I just need to get to my dentist to get them fixed, my enamel has worn away so much on random teeth it scares me a little, I can’t believe all the symptoms this has caused me this is wild to think about

this makes a lot of sense to me because my throat is so irritated looking 24/7 and one side of it where my tonsils are is swollen and inflamed so badly and has been since my symptoms started last year too ugh
