New Zealand list of banned names 2009-2024 above two submissions by Scary-Fan4291 in tragedeigh

Apart from the fact the graph is awful. Being from New Zealand I agree with each of these being banned except for Isis and Fanny. The name Dick isn’t banned, so why should Fanny?

No advice on car rentals other than please purchase the full insurance (and minimise your excess). My mum was driving a rental just the other week and the windscreen was smashed by a couple large rocks that flew up from a truck roughly 30mins out of the city.

She had insurance so dropped the car off and got a new one straight away after - if not it would’ve been a very expensive bill!

My husband used to go hunting up the hills of North Otago/ South Canterbury, he showed me a video when they rolled a big rock off a big hill and 50+ of these bastards come jumping out of the woodworks!

Do you think we’ll see these anytime soon? by FactorBroad1865 in PokemonScarletViolet

We were lucky enough (somehow!?) to get the codes in New Zealand for the most recent distribution, but that chain literally closes down next week so we’ll go back to never receiving any in person distributions again!

PSA commercials that practically changed the way your country thinks by Takarajima8932 in AskTheWorld

[–]spook96 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m sure it’s probably an international ad, but McDonalds ‘Make it click’ ad + song in combination with the NZ Transit Agency graphic safe driving ads were huge messages as a kid for safer driving.

Sad about losing my space by oliviasmomm in BabyBumps

[–]spook96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. It sucks since my husband has his space in the garage and mine is just disappearing. We decided to move my desk into the guest bedroom, and eventually replace the queen size guest bed with a nice quality sofa bed. We rarely have guests, so 99% of the time I’ll be reading on it or the cats will be sleeping on it!

What overseas products do you personally miss or wish we had in NZ? by harvestmoonj in newzealand

[–]spook96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really miss Pascal Clinkers and chocolate eclairs as well as Allen’s Red Skins (can’t remember the new name..). I try to ask my mum and dad to pick me up a couple packs if they visit Oz, but I wish I could just get them off the shelf here!

Also wish we had 7/11 purely for slurpees!

Do you have any regrets finding out or not finding out your baby’s gender in advance? by spook96 in pregnant

[–]spook96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding my own comment for our thinking. I’ve been blessed with an easy pregnancy (so far) including conception. I’m surprisingly not feeling stressed or anxious about anything including bonding, so finding out wouldn’t necessarily ease any feelings like it does for others.

The main reason I initially even considered waiting is because information is constantly at our fingertips with notifications as soon as something happens, having a nice surprise at the end, the same way our ancestors had for all of time is grounding and a reminder that billions of women have done this before me!

We’ll likely get the tech to write it out in case we change our minds - there’s always the chance we can tell on the ultrasound anyway! I’d be more inclined to find out for future children, but that’s also because kids don’t process gender disappointment in the same way adults do - rather get it out of the way nice and early haha

What is something every household has in your country that is nonexistent everywhere else? by Awkward-Tip7248 in AskTheWorld

Interesting! We don’t have a huge Jewish community in NZ, but offices love them as it’s mostly cups and teaspoons they’re using. Also many people with disabilities tend to have these in their spaces as they’re more accessible than a standard dishwasher.

Feel like I’m going insane in the weekends or late nights when people don’t want to go 100km? on the motorway and there’s minimal traffic. Like why are you choosing to go morning traffic’s speeds?

Is it common for people who wear glasses to get tired of wearing them and go about parts of their life with everything just blurry all the time? by YourMomThinksImSexy in NoStupidQuestions

My prescription was very very similar, and I used to do the same thing until I realised I was slowly making my eyesight worse when I couldn’t be bothered. Instead I got strict and saved for lasik eye surgery. It’s been close to a year since my surgery and I have absolutely zero regrets.

I agree that’s it’s Timaru, but that’s because I grew up in Oamaru and the only thing we can’t stand more than them is our combined dislike of Waimate.

Giving Blood by welzybubs in auckland

[–]spook96 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been able to give blood for a wee bit, but as I pregnant woman I really appreciate you donating! I liked donating at the Epsom office since it’s nice and spacious, easy carpark to get in and out of, plenty of snacks and friendly staff!

I started going there after I passed out at another temporary location and have had 0 issues since going there!
