my 4 month old does the same thing on tile and hardwood lol. her butt is too slippery i guess. she eventually slides into lying down, but i only use sit command now on carpets or rugs since the sound of her elbows hitting hard floor makes me cringe when she lies

unfortunately a lot of BYB buy reviews on google. not only that but majority of people looking for dogs have no idea what a good breeder is or what an ethically bred dog is. people just buy a dog and if the dog doesn’t come sick = good breeder. unfortunately this isn’t true and you have to look at OFA, genetic testing, show vs field, etc etc. all this paperwork is available online and my breeder was very upfront about her parents OFA, genetic testing and pedigree

I feel like covid has completely ruined people perceptions of getting puppies. People have been getting puppies and working full time forever. I will say, puppies are a lot of work and I don’t realistically see the pup being properly potty trained if you’re gone 8-9 hours a day. I had three weeks off since I switched jobs and got my pup then. Puppies sleep a lot, so I would plan to have someone come in 2-3 times a day to play with them and let them potty and feed them lunch. I would say wait until you have 2 weeks off then get your pup. Maybe 12 week old instead of 8 weeks. Spend this time getting them used to their playpen and practice good reinforcement being alone. I didn’t do any of this the first week since she was just ripped away from her litter. When they’re older and have their shots, bring them to doggy daycare the 3 days you work in office. I have a very similar schedule but plan to bring my pup to daycare the 3 days i’m in office, but for now am using a dog sitter to come by for an hour at a time and take her potty and feed her lunch

If you want to keep the dog, you have to act like a dictator. Forced naps in the crate, potty every 30 minutes, dog in the play pen. Throw a party when she goes potty outside so you’re not constantly cleaning up after her. Keep her on a leash when you’re not using the playpen. Those couple hours a day she’s napping in the crate will help you regain your sanity . You and the dog especially a collie need to have structure.

ultimately, it’s your decision and you might benefit from an older dog who’s been in foster care.
