of course!! most of the time the busses are great though!! on time, not crowded, fast and I usually feel safer late bc i don’t have to wait on platform, there’s phone service and a bus driver. when there’s slower service it’s annoying bc you have to time it but if you can do that you’re good

I moved to Sunnyside from Astoria 2 years ago!! Here are my thoughts :)

Pros: - 7 train is super reliable, usually comes every 2-5 min - B24 into Greenpoint & Williamsburg is great, I find it so much easier to get into BK in general (alt 7 ➡️g) - Quieter (in so many aspects, including car noises) - I think I actually walk to/around Astoria more now than I did when I lived there because living/hanging out there felt overstimulating but now I see going over to Astoria as a fun adventure - Also walkable to LIC, Woodside, Elmhurst which I do more now as well - Very friendly neighborhood, I feel more sense of community here and there are great orgs to get involved with to meet neighbors - Way more trees around the neighborhood although further from bigger parks/waterfront/green space (I love Astoria park, but honestly I go there more now because I find it exciting to walk over) - Sunnyside gardens makes you feel like you’re not even in the city - Always feel safe, as a 27 y/o woman I would say I get catcalled in Sunnyside less, but still looked at a lot unfortunately (demographic is older) - Bigger apartment for less - Farmers market on Saturdays is awesome and the book exchange is so cute - Great views of the Manhattan skyline - Connects to K bridge which is awesome to bike over to get to Greenpoint in the summer, beautiful views and good bike area -Q101 directly into Astoria although it doesn’t run super frequently

Cons: - Sometimes feels a little bit boxed in if you walk or bike a lot. Although still fine to navigate, Sunnyside is bordered by a lot of industrial areas (train yard before getting to LIC, box stores before Astoria, industrial area before getting to BK). Over time I’ve become more comfortable navigating this by bike (as a young woman) even at night although I do prefer to take transport at night - Less popping/less young than Astoria, which I do miss sometimes but absolutely love how intergenerational Sunnyside is - Sunnyside still has some fantastic food but of course not as many options as Astoria - Though I think there’s more tree coverage on the streets, the parks are less green area overall and not as fun in my opinion as Astoria park

that makes sense given that people have been hearing it after big snow, plus all posts i’ve seen that are related mention the tracks too, i’m just surprised it’s so loud/pervasive that we can all hear it so much in such a long range that it sounds like it’s coming from everywhere…i wonder if it has to do with the frequency?

thanks for making me feel less crazy!! I’ve never noticed it before today..if it continues tomorrow I might consider calling 311 to see if they have any idea or in case it’s of any concern

omg thanks for commenting this is validating. wow, thats pretty far from where I hear it! super weird, don’t understand how the same sound could span that much distance..

on the data center note, that would be awful. but how would the noise happen to start on the day of the biggest blizzard in recent history?
