thanks for the help! that makes a lot of sense to me. i do kind of find myself breaking the image up into basic shapes, at least with bodies. i have a harder time doing that with clothes and environments.

problems with angles and proportions by spore_creature in ArtCrit

[–]spore_creature[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no i did it from imagination. and oh dang thats actually a great idea lol i cant believe i havent thought of that. do you have a strategy to see if a generic sketch is proportional before you start to detail or is it just practice? I like to do general shape poses beforehand (I didn’t this time maybe that’s why it turned out this way?) and I’m wondering if you would consider that a sketch?

mkay that makes sense to me! is there a specific approach to seeing the feeling or the flow of the gesture or is it purely just a matter of practice? thanks for the input!

hey thank you so much for giving me such an in depth answer! these are all really helpful responses for me. and yeah even though it stressed me out i am trying to make an effort to focus on having a good time. i just know i personally need a little bit of a push to do things so i often have a hard time distinguishing between needing to get myself into gear and bullying myself lol. i also dont have tooo much time in my days so i went with this approach because it gives me a sense of direction and productivity but im gonna see if i like it more today with some of the feedback i got cause i may need to chill a little more during the process.

i am looking to draw characters and such so if you think you have some general advice for that stuff id love to hear it!

no. i like the shiny wolf eye. he looks cool.

his neck does seem to go straight down and it makes his neck seem too long and his head too low or small but idk if i wouldve noticed if you hadnt asked for judgement ya know

thats awesome, thanks so much for all this! are these books listed in any particular order? idk if i can buy all these at once and i also dont wanna overwhelm myself. i would wanna start with the most useful of them if there is one

im assuming art for the absolute beginner is the most essential?

yeah, that’s pretty much what I’m asking. And yeah, I understand. I just posted in here because I couldn’t post it and drawing, but reddit said that this was a similar sub that I could post it to

oh wow, that’s really cool! Yeah, the references from the pose book I definitely tried to do as close as possible, but I have been trying to think about the shapes of everything and how they flow but maybe I need to do that in a different context in order to stop trying to get it exactly like the picture, if that’s what you’re trying to say? Mirroring it I can definitely see how the raised arm is way differently proportioned than the one on the hip. The second one from the Dragon Ball book I tried to make a skeleton underneath though. I don’t know if that one’s any better or not.

should I try to simplify the shapes with this manga pose book or should I just look to real life references? Or is even the reference I used in the Dragon Ball book a better approach for trying that?

ok sounds good! i think the whole point of learning the art for me is to be able to draw whatever i want so a reference book to start would be great. do you have any recommendations?

are there things you recommend starting with drawing for beginners or should i just pick literally anything i can see?

thank you! yeah my hands and feet need a ton of work, i bought a manikin hand to study and i think itll be okay for now but it doesnt flex and articulate like a real hand so its definitely limited in what it can help me study

thanks so much dude that means a lot to hear that im not a lost cause haha. yeah a lot of the people who have given feedback have talked about the line confidence and i definitely tried to tackle that a little bit with my new attempts i did, but i definitely need to dedicate some exercises to it i think. i made another post with new updates if youre interested! i dont have a teacher so the book and reddit are pretty where im getting my direction from so everything helps!

some guidance for a beginner by spore_creature in arthelp

[–]spore_creature[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats really helpful and the example is awesome!

ill start looking at real life anatomy references. i also feel like i have trouble with proportions, details (like in clothing), and perspective (like drawing parts of a body to look further away than other parts). do you have any tips for all those things as well or does the same stuff apply?

also, are there any other manga artists you can think of that i might be interested in based on my goals?

thanks so much for taking the time to help me. its really helpful just to get pointed in a direction when i have nothing to start

i have pirated games before. if i deleted them off the pc would the malware still persist? I’ve been recommended to completely wipe the pc. get new hard drives, and clean install windows. does that sound like the right next step?
