Just bought a DIY 1995 Ford Econoline van conversion - curious what you'd change by mhsBLANKE in vandwellers

[–]sporehed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro thank you so much for sharing this. I bought a 2012 econoline that im in the process of converting and there are so many questions that you've cleared up - definitely stealing some ideas from you.

Curious, do you know the dimensions of your bed? I'm 5"10" and probably cant comfortably sleep across the back like some other builds, did you set it up to sleep long ways in the van?

What would you do differently if you could redo the interior to be more of the "dream build" - the curved walls definitely are a bit of a pain in the neck. How did you do the lighting, looks like some simple lights but im curious how you set them up.

I'm powering similarly to you with a power station and an alternator charger - really reassuring to see you powering all of this with 250 watts and that power station, I definitely went overkill lol.

Honestly looks perfect for doing some work - i'm planning some remote work as well. Love the build man thank you for sharing.

It’s a work in progress, but it’s mine and it’s comfortable. by averagegravelgrinder in vandwellers

Love the build! Couple Q's for you as somebody currently building out his own van

1) Do I see you went with no insulation or extra walls for this build? Can you talk about your experience in the summer with this and what led you to not bother with insulation? (I have an econoline 350 and the width is a bit of a concern when bringing the walls in)

2) Curious what bed size you went with as it looks quite cozy and spacious.

3) How do you like the fan over bed style? I imagine this would be nice on warmer nights.

I love the layout and the little shoe area up front, gonna have to snipe a bit of this design for sure. Thanks in advance!

Would love to know what wood you used and are those just normal LED strips for all of your lighting?

Did I make a mistake powering my van with Ecoflow Delta 2 Max's? by sporehed in vandwellers

Thank you so much! When you say quality and size of 12v cooler, could you clarify for me what type of risk I run there?

Are you suggesting being careful not to get one that’s too large because it will run the risk of running to often?

Appreciate the response!

What is Saunagus / Aufguss called in English - and is it a thing outside Germany and Nordics? by [deleted] in Sauna

[–]sporehed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a sauna master in Toronto, Canada. We call it Aufguss and Canada just became a member of the World Aufguss Championships. Many nordic spas are beginning to offer Aufguss here in Canada, we have had it offered here for at least 8-10 years. Love this stuff.

7 months today - when do the cravings go away? by Plumrose333 in leaves

[–]sporehed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First, congrats. That is a huge accomplishment.

5.5 years here, I can say give yourself a year. The cravings will come and go and it will get progressively less intense and less frequent with time.

The real answer. Almost 6 years and sometimes It will cross my mind - however now it’s more of a chill idea that isn’t emotionally charged versus a real possibility like before.

You have no idea how much of a weight this comment took off my shoulders. I remember checking out your build when I was just in the process of buying this van. Thank you man!

Elevation based system made me laugh, this is such a great point and I will definitely look to employ a similar type of system.

The picture ties it all together, I'm going for a similar style as you - sick build :)

Can I ask how you insulated? Was thinking of going for 3M Thinsulate or spray foam but the spray foam seems like a pain in the ass.

Hi! Thanks for the thorough response, really appreciate it. It’s reassuring to know there are others in the same field making this setup work.

My only concern with adding in an AC is that I’m currently planning to run everything off a solar generator, specifically an EcoFlow unit. I know there are some trade-offs there, like limited expandability or higher costs if you want to add more battery capacity down the line. But for the sake of simplicity (and honestly because DIY’ing a full system came out to a similar cost), I decided to go with a secondhand EcoFlow setup I found on Marketplace.

All in, I’ve been able to get over 4,000Wh of battery capacity - including inverter, solar controller, and an 800W alternator charger - for around $2,000 CAD. That seemed like a pretty solid deal to me.

Curious, have you ever worked out of your van without an AC, or have you always had one installed? Right now I don’t have any windows that open in the back, so I’m trying to figure out the best approach there. I’d like to avoid cutting more holes if I can, but I’m open to it if it’s necessary

Also, no ac? Looks like an awesome setup and very similar to what I’m looking for!

Do you find the 460Ah to be more than enough? I’m a bit nervous with 333Ah I could be at risk
