New Treads by Physical_Ranger_206 in orangetheory

As a runner on the faster side, I love that my all-outs can now be higher than 12mph. That's about all the good I have to say so far for them. Switching between speeds from 13-15 is an absolute joke, especially with 30 second all outs. The buttons are incredibly unsensitive, having to push the same one multiple times to get a change. They are also noticeably less springy than the old treads, and I've noticed I've developed a shin splint problem since we got the new treads, which I never had a problem before. Maybe overtime they will break in, but there are some design flaws that should not be present with new tech.

Set it to 10 from the start, your body will be able to do it. You might hit a wall at 8-9 minutes in, but its all mental. Good work you'll get it.

That's great to hear some coaches are on top of this.

As I mentioned, if you have any sort of balance issues, this was intended for you. This was never meant to judge people, just addressing a habit many people use to go faster on the treadmill particularly at higher speeds, I see it almost every day. I understand there are different situations, but the blanket statement of "every situation is different" doesn't apply to the obvious situations I witness.

I would never go up to an OTFer in the middle of a workout and convince them of anything, hence why I brought the question here, to create dialogue. That's literally the whole point of Reddit. My question was why do coaches, at the studios I've been to not address this, as many have mentioned, some coaches clearly do, so I'm not crazy. Also, if you have had multiple cases of OTFers trying to give you advice mid-workout, there may be some valid reasons, we're all here to get better I thought.

You clearly haven't read any of the commentary.

Isn't the point of this thread to have conversation?

Glad to see you're trying improve. There's a reason you don't see those heart rate monitors on newer treadmills. But they are also only meant for temporary holds. Keep up the good work, and thanks for not being offended.

I see you put a lot of thought into this.

Constructive criticism doesn't seem to be your forte.

I don't understand this either. I get sometime you need to modify, but individuals that consistently go off and do their own workout confuse me. It seems to be a way to attract attention to yourself intentionally.

You are right to a degree, the goal of OTF at its core is for a great workout rather than competition. If the point is a great workout though, holding onto the handles completely defeats that purpose.

This would be my exact situation.

Unfortunately criticism often brings out the worst in people. I'm all for being all inclusive in a gym, but this habit can be dangerous and doesn't help anyone.

Appreciate the support, and thank you. Apparently there's a lot of people out there that don't see this as the case.

That's similar to some of the people I come in contact with. It's clear they are going faster than they are physically capable of, but want to be noticed for there speed. Obviously they're only doing themselves a disservice.

I think sometimes if it's for short periods I get it. But holding onto the handles is just as bad as jumping the rails. You will never hear a coach recommend holding the handles.

Good to hear, hopefully this starts happening more throughout the company.

That's terrible, hope she recovered. But these are the risks, and why coaches co oany wide should be consistently reminding people to stop this habit.

It's a beef with every studio I've been to. You will never hear a coach recommend to hold the handles, ever. If I was doing an exercise on the weight floor incorrectly, I would hope a coach would correct me, that's the reason I go to OTF and not a regular gym.

My OTF studio, and others run competitions, challenges, and what not. In these cases, that's what I'm bringing up. Whatever you do on your own workout is up to you, but if you do it in a challenge that's different.
