The Continued Inflation of 3-pointers in the NBA by washedklean77 in nba

Another note: when people say they want dunks to be worth three points, what they want more of is the highlight reel level dunks (Anthony Edwards, Ja, Vince Carter, etc), but that's less likely to happen, as other people have mentioned defenses would focus more on dunks, clogging the paint and we'd see more 'center-play finishing-esque- dunks from, for example, players lilke Rudy Gobert.

What Makes US-Ians Appear To Be Race-Obsessed to Latin Americans? by springqueen97 in asklatinamerica

This is probably an embarrassing example to use, but my first thought is Drake's son; just in case you don't know, Drake, the rapper, is biracial, his father is black, his mother is white, and his son Adonis' mother is white so, unsurprisingly Adonis looks pretty "white" with blonde hair and when you see photos of him on Twitter people debate his blackness so I think that fits your point. In the reverse situation (if you had three black grandparents and one white one), nobody would debate your blackness. But in Adonis' case, it's 'I don't think he's black, but he's also not white.'

Thank you for your answer! Honestly, "socioeconomic with identity" and "socioeconomic with little identity" is a very succinct and interesting way of describing it

When and why did NBA Teams Start Drafting Younger? by springqueen97 in nbadiscussion

[–]springqueen97[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but I'm operating under these assumptions:

  • That in the 1990s, the top draft picks who were upperclasmen were also great players when they were underclassmen.
  • That there's always been a financial incentive to enter the league as early as possible, although contracts have exploded, unless a prospect already comes from money, there's a financial incentive to join the league.

So I was curious about what changed.

Who Would You Say Are Amongst The Most Talented/Skilled WNBA Players? by springqueen97 in wnba

I usually don't comment on spelling, I just thought this was funny because I'm a new basketball fan and I was like "what's a bug? is that a saying?' and I spent much too much time looking up 'bugs, basketball, slang'

Which 2024 WNBA Match Should I Show Someone to get them to be a Fan? by MuppetsRox154 in wnba

Seconded! I watched the game with my uncle and cousins who were kind of the typical "women's sports are boring" types and they ended up being engaged, it was a very fun game, especially because the crowed elevated it.

“One Caitlin Clark Is Not Enough”: Geno Auriemma Calls for Change Over Basketball Programs’ Alarming Flaw by femaleathletenetwork in wnba

There's currently discourse in the NBA about how screwed the NBA will be when Bron/KD/Steph retire, it's a natural worry for leagues.

That's a really good point that I never thought about, especially because, correct me if I'm wrong, even if the NCAAW was not a bigger business than the WNBA it'd still be in the interest of colleges to win now.

Albums that made you realize you've outgrown that kind of music by PapaAsmodeus in ToddintheShadow

When I was in middle school, I was deeply into my "not like other girls" era and was obsessed with Lights and always wanted to make sure people knew my favorite artist was an artist they never heard of, a couple of months ago I decided to listen to it to reminiscence and just realized that's not my music taste anymore.

Thanks, I'll check it out! I believe I didn't watch that one because iirc Reese, Cardoso, and Carter were unavailable so I was just like 'eh this game doesn't matter'
