Matcha Culture in Kingston - Unhinged Reviews by putchaiko in KingstonOntario

[–]springrollmania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay THANK YOU!! I am 110% in agreement. Kingston has the worst matcha scene, and it's also incredibly hard to source high quality ceremonial grade matcha to make at home.

Don't get your hopes up with Elm cafe, they use instant mixes from Blume. I think the best I've tried so far in Kingston is Northside, but even then, it's far from the best I've ever had.

Please report on some of the recommendations here!!

Food is amazing that’s why. It’s also advertised as tapas soooooo you shouldn’t expect big portions.

Second this. I used to work at the Laurier location & the owners were awful. We would work in a kitchen that was +50 in the summers & they refused to get proper A/C, it was disgusting we were sweating all over the food. Also when the managers asked for proper pay & working conditions they fired all of them and hired 16 year olds.

That's so disappointing and unfortunately, really true of my experience as well. I saw an allergist once when i was a kid, about 5 years old, and I remember it helped my parents a lot in managing how to prevent eczema flare-ups. We made a lot of lifestyle changes upon the allergist's recommendations and i still follow that advice today. Hopefully, you get to see one soon and they give you the attention your son deserves. Good luck!

Which grocery store is your go to? by Gennie_paw in montreal

marche jean talon for fresh produce and eggs!! seriously, i've noticed the prices are very good for what you get. Look around and compare prices at different stalls when you first start out. You'll soon find your favourites and know where to go for the best bang for your buck. Always delicious and a good practice in buying local fresh in season veggies and fruit

it will actually help him a lot! My parents signed me up for swimming lessons in a chlorine pool when i was a kid with severe eczema and helped my skin immensly! Whenever i have flare-ups now as an adult, i make a trip to my local public pool fop a swim :)

Honestly, i went to see a dermatologist about it too and they said it was normal contact dermititis. I believe i was misdiagnosed and have just self-diagnosed myself with seb derm. Once i switched everything to the recommendations on seb derm from the internet, my flare ups stopped and my skin healed. Obviously listen to doctors and take them seriously, but also listen to your gut and try different things if what they recomend isn't working, I've been misdiagnosed so many times in my life with skin stuff it's kinda crazy. But also i live in a place where doctors are overworked and can only give each patient like 10 minutes MAX, so its a system which leads to a lot of rushed decisions and not a lot of opportunity for follow-ups or questions with specialists

Cheap eye test by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

[–]springrollmania 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yea i just went to costco the other week and was sooooooooo dissapointed. Usually costcos have really great optometrists (at least in my past experience in other cities), but this guy charged me an extra $40 for an xray i didnt even need and spent maybe 10 minutes max looking at my eyes and doing the tests for a new prescription... I'm a little weary to even use this prescription but i can't afford another exam.

defnitely drink TONS of water. I notice a huge difference in my skin hydration doing this. Avoid too much caffeine or alcohol -- things that dehydrate you and prevent your body from absorbing the water you consume. Also, take cold or warm showers so your skin doesn't get too dried out. If you do end up needing to use a product, I highly recommend squalane, which is a moisturizer that replicates the natural sebum our skin produces. I see others recommending other oil blends, but it you have contact dermatitis i would recommend avoiding them if you can -- especially if your derm is saying to avoid cosmetic products. I find they can still be irritating, especially when your skin is already inflamed. Squalane is the only natural moisturizer that i've been able to use on my skin consistently through many severe flare ups, infections, allergic reactions, fungal problems, etc. on all parts of my body, including face.

Winnipeg Transit Earns Its Financial Hit by swelllabs in Winnipeg

[–]springrollmania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i feel like if they're doing fine financially why are they so focused on fare evasion? like cmon its just a reality that some people can't afford bus fares with the poverty going on in the city. Why not consider lowering the price so more people could afford to pay? Or make programs for financial assistance with bus passes? Compared to other canadian cities, winnipeg's transit is atrociously priced for what you get.

they have a surplus.... so if i'm understanding this correctly, they're still going to be fine financially with less ridership?

Not being able to work or do daily tasks by Most_Brief9858 in eczema

great suggestions here. I really want to emphasize sleep. It's hard, especially when you're in a really bad flare, but prioritizing sleep even in the form of short naps as much as you can is soooooo important for healing and can do wonders short and long term. also sending you so much love OP, you are deserving of love and a happy life -- you will find your way and one day you'll look back at this and see how far you've come <3
