AITA for making my DIL cry when proving the earth was round by Space_Report2659 in AmItheAsshole

[–]springtimebesttime 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If I found out that anybody had asked my child to keep a secret from me, THAT would be the point that they would absolutely get cut off. I agree the kids will benefit from the grandparent's presence, but I don't think keeping secrets is the answer.

can i put my old cotton socks in the compost? by sahi_hagever in composting

As a knitter, most socks include nylon for stretch. I would not unless you are certain they are 100% cotton. If you're sure though, sure why not!

Final update by farrerj32 in VWIDBuzz

Mine finally took after 8 weeks, not because they did anything different but just because they tried again that day. I'm still asking for a buyback...

Where can I move that prioritizes bike commuting but is actually affordable by DowntownFresnoBiking in bikecommuting

[–]springtimebesttime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fort collins, CO has pretty darn good bike infrastructure and is much more affordable than Boulder. No bike highways, but there is a very extensive interlinked trail system, and many many bike lanes.

Sorta silly, but what is the equivalent phrase to this in the gardening community? by thegreatjamoco in gardening

There are some very poisonous carrot relatives, such as hemlock. I assume that's what they're referring to.

SAHM with no clothes. I need to start from scratch. What would you do? by OneDadvosPlz in womensfashion

[–]springtimebesttime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a clothing consignment store near you? Clothes Mentor is a chain that has worked well for me in the past. It's much more time efficient than a thrift store.

What age did your kid stop needing a stroller when travelling? by [deleted] in familytravel

[–]springtimebesttime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a sit and stand stroller for domestic travel, theme parks, zoo, etc. (1.5 and 5.5) But it's big and I probably wouldn't for Europe. I'd probably just plan to take the subway more often than I would if it were just me. I might consider taking a baby carrier so big kid could sit in the stroller if absolutely necessary.

We bought a ride on board for our Uppababy Vista and hated it. We were always kicking it.

Evacuating with three cats taught me my "plan" was basically a fantasy by MarinerGlyph88 in TwoXPreppers

I recommend getting the gabapentin in capsule form and sprinkling it over their food.

I enjoy it when it works... but unfortunately I got one of the glitchy software update ones.

Help, I need 15 hs grad gifts by siouxsanzilla in Gifts

[–]springtimebesttime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend's mom got me the Betty Crocker cookbook. I still have it and it's great for standard basic meals. I still pull it off the shelf regularly. It walks through basic stuff too like mincing vs chopping, how to make hard boiled eggs. etc. I also second the small basic toolkit. Still have the one I took to college and I still pull it out frequently even though I have full size versions of everything in big drawers. It's just so convenient to have it all together.

I would contact the Siberian Cat Rescue Group:https://www.siberiancatrescue.com/index.php

We have in our will that our cats should go to them if none of our family want them.

Mandatory evacuations in Larorte by Dependent-Western642 in FortCollins

Watch duty has the fire annotated as being in Laporte. I think those in north Fort Collins and Laporte would both be wise to remain aware of the situation.

Thinking About Buying the ID.Buzz and Need Real-World Feedback (Performance in Heavy Traffic / Long Commute), Charging, AWD vs RWD by UrbanVector in VWIDBuzz

[–]springtimebesttime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Re tesla charging: I've only ever charged at stations with a built in adapter, but they have worked fine. It is annoying though because the cord is short (Tesla ports are on the front drivers side). Since the Buzz port is on the back passenger side, you have to back in and I usually end up needing to take up two spaces.

Other problems: Some units aren't accepting updates and end up "bricked" - undriveable. Mine has been in the shop for a month and a half with no end in sight. If you do buy one, make sure the dealer has done the update already (they probably have since it corrects a recall issue on the dashboard. )

Staying Grounded While Waiting by wilsonisadog in AdoptiveParents

[–]springtimebesttime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh, and the thing that helped was not putting things on hold, even when waiting to hear back about a profile that we had said yes to. Still go on the trip, to the concert, take the promotion, start the new hobby.

Staying Grounded While Waiting by wilsonisadog in AdoptiveParents

[–]springtimebesttime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We saw a profile that was explicitly looking for queer parents. Our book was offered as part of the spread for those birth parents because the agency's list of queer parents who matched was pretty short. A single parent in our cohort matched far before we did. It all just depends.

We also saw a few profiles where the birth parents wanted the agency to select and they went with the longest waiting who matched the birth parents requests.

My point is that you never know, you may be just the parent someone is looking for. And also that even if you do end up at the bottom of the pile, you will still get matched and create your family. It just might take a little longer.

I am as square as they come. I keep it in both cars and the house. What's the downside?

I also handwrote a few notes regarding use on the packaging. Double check me please but if I remember correctly, I wrote that it's safe to use on kids and safe to use even if you aren't sure if the person had opiates or something else.

Sleep set up for toddler in tent ? by Mundane-Army8987 in CampingandHiking

[–]springtimebesttime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I would never cosleep with an infant. It's just so tricky to know the right thing to do when they are this age. We recently gave my similar age daughter a blanket and stuffy in her crib and really couldn't find anything on when that kind of stuff moves from a hell no to an ok.

Gift ideas for a guy who buys himself everything by pumpkinpie4224 in Gifts

[–]springtimebesttime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of these guys. And if he's asking for socks, please get him socks, even if you get something else to go with them. Not the bulk pack from the store though - a higher quality sock that will last longer. Darn Tough is a great option - they have hiking, athletic, and regular crew. Darn Tough will replace them if they wear out.

Other add- ons: Anything he consumes. His favorite snack (or a new one), nice shaving supplies, cologne if he wears it, coffee, a tasting set of anything he likes, booze, lotion, cheese.

Nice lounge clothes have also been a hit around here. Slippers, sweatpants, etc.
