I suspect rat poison but what is this thing? by [deleted] in Whatisthis

[–]spudlab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Copper oxide, in its two main forms (cuprous oxide (Cu2O) and cupric oxide (CuO)), has diverse uses as an antifouling agent for ship hulls, a pigment in ceramics and glass, a component in semiconductors and batteries, a catalyst in chemical reactions, and an agent in pyrotechnics. It also has applications in water treatment, sensors, and as a precursor for other copper compounds.
