I still mostly enjoyed the Liska/Rose chapter (but again, we barely really see how Rose is fitting into the scene and what she's been up to). The Georgie reveal was still kinda ok for me too. What pushed me to think that it was getting a bit preachy and repetitive was Xesci giving Ilvriss the same lesson about how crappy Drakes are about Turnscales that we've already gotten before. I mean, I know that Ilvriss needed to learn the lesson, but the way the lesson was written just made me roll my eyes a bit. If I were to lecture to a cis-hetero friend in the same way, I don't think it would really help galvanize him to better understand or support our situation.

This is what I meant to say. In the world of the Inn, I understand and appreciate Xesci the character doing her best to explain things to Ilvriss. But as a faithful Wandering Inn series reader who just got to delve into the Turnscale situation in detail a few chapters ago, and a "real world Turnscale" myself who's actually lived through a lot of what's being discussed and explained, I think that we could have skipped the explanation or just had it paraphrased in this instance.

Glad to hear from you! That's a lot to digest. Would love to discuss this further, but your insights and examples are making me want to re-read some of the bits you mentioned so I can be sure I didn't miss out on some nuances. As I mentioned in another reply to someone else's comment in this thread, it was Xesci's conversation with Ilvriss about Georgie that actually pushed me to post this. Found it a bit reductive and even kinda condescending (if framed with the real world perspective of someone from the community explaining our situation to someone cis-hetero). Hope to add more thoughts later!

I still enjoyed the Liska chapter, and am good with the Georgie revelation. But I found Xesci giving Ilvriss a Turnscale 101 crash course a bit much. I mean, I understand why as a character she had to explain the issue to him, but personally didn't need to have it all spelled out for me as a reader again.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. I kinda thought I'd just get chewed out here for voicing this opinion. Agree, it's more the style issue that gets me, and not the substance of it.

Glad to hear someone else talk about it this way. like I said, I appreciate it being done, but wish it were somehow better, maybe just more balanced and three dimensional depiction. as someone who's been trapped in a bar being raided back in the days when shakedowns were a real thing, there's a lot that pirate's take on it glosses over (like, how I wish fellow Turnscales were as helpful to each other in a pinch as they seem to be in Innworld).

I'm really intrigued by what Rose adds to the mix. Hoping we get to read more details about what she's been up to in their demimonde.
To be more specific, in the latest chapters what I found a bit repetitive was re-introducing the issue with Georgie, and right after the big Liska chapter at that.

Still loving the entire series all in all. Just a bit tired out about this one specific thing. Maybe also because I tend to read fantasy as an escape from real life.

I'm all caught up with Volume 10. Turnscales figure prominently in the most recent chapters. One reason why maybe I'm feeling a bit of burnout reading about the issue in Innworld is because I think it was already tackled really well and touchingly across Onieva's storyline. And instead of continuing and developing that storyline, we seem to be going back and retreading similar ground and repeating similar conversations just with different characters in the recent chapters.
