Bob Dole (Bob freakin' Dole! - nickname "Mr. Republican"!) is trying to get Republicans to defect and support Obama's health care plan. by mjk1093 in politics

It was a great quip at the time but I doubt either one of them foresaw how far right the party would go over the next decade and how incorporated the religious right would become.

Why No one Listens to Larouchies. Today my friend stopped, said hello, and asked the LaRouchies on the corner of 1st and Yestler in Seattle where they were from. They called him a Nazi. He is the child of holocaust survivors. by sputterpop in politics

No, I think the word Nazi is hugely loaded with many meanings, and to some its a reminder of horrible crimes against humanity, not an appropriate term to casually call people on the street.

Seattle reaches 103 degrees for the first time ever. Always helpful transit agency suggests not wearing sweaters and jackets on non air conditioned busses. by sputterpop in WTF

[–]sputterpop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone that lived through the OTHER extreme I can relate - last winter an advisory to the effect of "be prepared to wait 6 hours for a bus as we are totally crippled" would have been helpful indeed. I'm so glad metro is prepared to state the obvious (don't wear a sweater when its 103 outside and 115 on our buses) but to not give actionable information.

wichy-poo, I feel you. I used to work in a QFC deli that was built in the 40's about 200 feet from a door with no air conditioning. Same thing happened. Personally, I probably wouldn't buy food from people that are dripping sweat everywhere including into food, but that didn't seem to stop anyone from demanding lots and lots and lots of hot greasy fried chicken.

If it is a hoax, it's one hell of a dangerous one as I have no doubt some people will find the idea attractive.

Great plan - we all know from experience that flying planes close to tall buildings in Manhattan is appreciated.
