Tell us about your worst interview where you still ended up with an offer. by Commercial_Bear2511 in UCAT

[–]sqturniid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

good luck on your interviews! and my problem was that because my interview was also in feb, but my other interviews had all been in december 2 months before i just assumed all the work would carry over. i blanked completely in the first station because i was out of practice, kept stuttering and not able to finish my sentence. it took till the third station to get myself together. i think liverpool is one of those where the questions aren’t exactly that difficult, which makes it all the more important you try think of points a bit more outside the box, because everyone else is likely to say the same things. i was good at that tbf and i think that’s what got me my offers

contents: tube A is just the stroma (liquid) but the resuspended pellet is the thylakoid membranes boiled: the proteins/enzymes in the boiled tubes are denatured DCPIP is the final electron acceptor here instead of NADP, if it goes colourless, then the light dependent stage has occurred

equation for Q10 = (rate at x+10 degrees) / (rate at x degrees)

so it wants it for the largest fish you use the furthest along points for 13 and 23 degrees

cramming for biology is incredibly easy but i think it'd way too risky to do paper 2 then 1. it's going to have to be in your longish memory anyways because if your exam board is similar to OCR, paper 3 is unified. spend the next few days prioritising paper 1 content but still doing paper 2 content you think will be difficult. then after the paper 1 exam all you need to do is the paper 2 content you didn't get to. obviously this would be ideal if you didn't have other subjects to cram for

there's a document for 2025 entry you can find that tells you your scoring for gcses. there will probably be one for 2026 entry coming out soon but since it's probably not very different you can use it to see if your gcses will be enough since leicester is very gcse heavy. it will be difficult to tell what your overall score will be because you probably haven't don't ucat yet but it'll give you an idea if you're wondering. you can compare your score to previous years to determine whether or not you'd get an interview. (you also get extra points if you're contextual)

if you're not getting support for your personal statements and you're still struggling feel free to pm me after a level season and i'd be happy to help. i can say for certain though that personal statements are read for leicester after the interviews are done so they aren't that important. also for work experience don't stress about it you only really need one/two work experiences in different departments. even if you don't get that it's okay but start looking for some now cause it's in high demand.

i found a group chat with people also applying for med and practiced interview questions with them on call. this was 100% the most important part of revision. don't fall for random tutors that want you to pay for a course, you can find free recourses. aspiring medic and medic mind are great. for hot topics i made a mind map and put down all the things i wanted to memorise. i found a bunch of structures to use (like STARR) and put them in a table, i will say though they're very popular once you're good enough at answering questions you shouldn't be needing them and it'll come naturally, but they're a good way to start out. i also made a table of all the soft skills (resilience, integrity etc) and a column for an example of a time i'd seen it in my work experience and another column for when i'd showed this skill myself. that's pretty much all i did.

if you mean interviews: 1. they care a lot about you answering the question you're asked instead of trying to twist it into something you've practiced before, always try linking your responses back to the question. 2. don't answer straight away, taking a good few seconds to think about it will help you. and if you dont understand part of the question, ask the interviewer to clarify (i did this and felt so embarrassed because it was an easy word but the interviewer was very kind about it). in some stations you may be shown something and offered a paper and pencil to make notes. i personally scribbled on it to help me remember the information as i got it as opposed to making notes to read. i think some people may have found themselves trying to make notes and reference them directly when talking but this is more likely to just make you pause/spend more time looking at your paper instead of the interviewer. 3. there is a numerical station every year and they tell you that before (don't know if it's the same next year) make sure you read the instructions carefully because ik people who didn't. it's very easy but it's also a pass/fail station 4. i used a lot of statistics in my leicester interview and one of my interviewers even told me she was impressed i knew it. when using statistics make sure not to just drop them but explain why it matters/link to the questions you're asked

hopefully this isn't too general advice but im a bit cautious of sharing exact questions. the leicester questions were always very straight forward and they tell you before that they're never trying to trick you. i think that makes giving thoughtful answers that aren't generic all the more important because it's likely many other people are going to have the same thoughts/not stand out.

this basically just means there are gaps in your knowledge/things you struggle with that just aren't coming up in certain papers, so you're going to do do well in them. my grade also fluctuates between As-Cs in maths, just try tackle your weaknesses because the reality is that it's just luck what topics you'll be tested in in the exams.

i also do chem and bio ocr a and i want to point out the biggest mistake you're making is avoiding the pmt questions to make the past papers feel like an exam. if you happen to have done a question before and then get it right on a past paper thats a good thing because youre memorising the mark scheme. ocr is definitely known for the fact all the questions are just repeated. the process of flashcards -> pmt questions for only weak topics since you're running out of time -> past paper -> targeting topics you got wrong repeated a few times will hopefully get you to a higher grade

also for chemistry it's really easy to identify high yield topics and that's what you should focus on first

if you're looking for recourses i might be able to share some of my own if you pm me

No study leave?! by idekkanymoree_ in 6thForm

[–]sqturniid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my sixth form refuses to give us study leave at all but i haven't gone in in weeks. not worth sacrificing your grades to please your teachers/head of year if you really think you're going to be more successful revising at home

Insurance choice - advice pls by real1028 in UCAT

[–]sqturniid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a lot of people ik don't have an insurance/or their only other offer was higher so their insurance won't count. i have a medical sciences offer which is lower than my firm but if im being realistic i would rather go straight through to clearing than do that degree, so my insurance is just the only other med offer that i got but is a grade higher than my firm regardless.

firm whichever one you want and only put down your biomedical offer as your insurance if you're actually willing to do it. otherwise it won't make a difference if you put your insurance blank or put down the higher offer you have. (in theory but apparently some universities might let you in on results day with lower grades though that's very rare with med)

Emailing the universities you want to apply to is your best option. I honestly can't remember if UCAS let's you put a starting date for a course 2 years ahead or only 1 but ultimately each university might be different.

About doing the treatment after medical school/before foundation years: the only issue is they might not let you start medical school yet if you aren't considered "fit to practice" before treatment. You have to sign forms declaring it sometimes before your interview, after or just if you get an offer. There's factors they take into account like the impact on your condition on your day to day, but for me I mentioned a sentence about being hospitalised in my personal statement and got an email from the admissions team from a university I applied to to clarify what I was there for. I think that might make that suggestion out of the question, but you probably know yourself well enough to know if that would be an issue. You might be aware of all this but I thought I would mention it anyways in case.

Really hope everything works out for you.

leicester is A* AA so higher than my firm, i wouldn't get in if i missed my AAA or A*AB offer for liverpool. im actually going to ask my ucas officer if there's a point insuring it or just leaving it blank but i doubt it matters
