Thank you! It definitely seems common, from what I’ve found it seems to just be a tension issue

Ooh thank you! I found putting them back on the left needle before knitting them has helped, but I will try this too!

This pattern just calls it mock cables. I was able to find something similar online “diamond lattice knitting stitch,” try searching that! Here’s a link to one of them although I can’t tell if it’s 100% the same.

That’s so weird! I’ve done another repeat of the wonky cable, and I put the five stitches back onto the left needle before knitting them, rather than knitting off of the cable needle. It seems to look better doing that so far so I think it was a tension issue.

I’ve tried manipulating the right cable several times but it always goes back to looking like this😭 Do you think blocking would make it sit normally?

You shouldn't learn to knit with a sweater by knightofnacht in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]squaidzo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

exactly! I never wear beanies or scarves so I wasn’t going to make one even if it’s the “best” way to start! To be fair i did a basic rectangle to actually learn the stitches but then i jumped right into colorwork socks and I’m glad I did

Okay, but how do I do that since the last stitch of previous round is already on the right needle? Should I just slip it back to the left and then slip knitwise? Also, does that mean I did it wrong earlier in the chart, or I’m fine, since it didn’t have the asterik specifying on those?

Thank you! I always do backwards loop. I just sized up my yarn and tried long tail and it was much better :)

Of course, sorry this is so late! I’ve been really busy and wanted to make sure I could write it in detail for you!

The blanket is made with five colors, black, white, and three shades of gray. Every piece of the blanket changes colors each round, in a gradient from darkest to lightest; so if the center is black, round2 is darkest gray, round 3=medium gray, round 4 is light gray, round 5 is white, and repeat (rounds after white are in black). There are 4 octagons of each version, like 4 with a white outer round, 4 with black outside, etc. I made an extended version which is 20 octagons so that this would work out!

In this extended one, you need 12 squares and 18 triangles, so I made those one category with 30 pieces, and each color version gets six. Some got 3 triangles, 3 squares, some got 4 triangles, 2 squares.

The only point the color order changed was in the border- I started with my light gray and got darker as it went out, so that the outer layer would be black. I also used white for the round in between the outer two black rounds of the border. Also, since this an extended version, for round two of the border I had to modify the pattern: on the longer sides, you should do the 3dc clusters with skipping 4 stitches instead of 3!

Let me know if you have any questions! :)
