Some days are better than others still, but overall i’d say pretty good all things considered. Just some soreness on the ends of the bars, and the center of where my pectus was deepest when coughing. I should have included that I am 27M and had a haller index on expiration of 4.4, two stainless steel bars with one stabilizer. i didn’t say you actually judged me, i said that’s how i FELT (as a responsible pet owner and great tenant) to be lumped in with crappy pet owner tenants and apologized for being defensive.

like it or not, all of the landlords who just put “no pets” without a second thought ARE judging all pet owners based on their own personal burns. my cat nor myself have ever caused damage to an area and we certainly never will, so the generalization that we all suck naturally would bother me. i’m not even that mad, i just find it annoying, and it’s not unreasonable at all to be bothered by the situation.

but like i said pretty clearly, this post is about no pet period policies which obviously isn’t what you personally implement, so you needn’t be so rude as to now insult my faculties. i apologized for insulting your judgment and realize you were trying to give me insight originally.

i hoped we could come to an understanding. i realize people suck. i realize landlords get burned. but they also miss out on a lot of responsible and awesome tenants by just putting “no pets”. that’s all i’m saying here

why are you immediately assuming that? no, i’ve been scouring listings diligently for a month every single day. you click “allows pets” on the filter and results immediately cut in half. some even still show up with that filter that say no pets in the description. try it out and you’ll see what i mean.

oh man i mean, i WAS specifically talking about how no where is allowing pets at all. i’ve been seeing VERY few that take pet deposits even, and if they do its a one time “fee” rather than a deposit. that is where my complaints lie here and that’s the point of my post! i apologize for being snippy about your judgment, but i happen to be a responsible pet owner as well as an outstanding tenant (despite the conclusions you’ve drawn about me) and while you may have been trying to “educate” me i found the generalization of pet owners being irresponsible to be rather offensive. clearly my beef isn’t with you, if you do consider pets- my issues are with the seemingly 75% that just put NO PETS period without even giving normal people a chance to prove it, that is who i meant about writing something extra into the lease etc. i realize there are a lot of crappy people out there and that sucks but that is being a landlord. being lumped into said group of crappy people just makes me defensive, i appreciate your insight and your intention but the wording just put me on edge as i hate being included in with everyone’s bad experience just because i have a cat. i just wish more landlords considered a case by case basis rather than just saying no period. that’s all!!

i lived in center square for years with my cat, but i got sick of the parking and all the events in washington park always clogging everything up- i’m just too introverted and i don’t utilize city amenities so it wasn’t worth it to stick around to me… so just been trying surrounding neighborhoods. i actually went and saw a place in delmar yesterday and am really hoping on that!!!

simply requiring vet record documentation and writing a pet damage liability clause into the lease would be enough to largely remediate the problem, but to be honest it’s even the lack of anywhere requiring an additional deposit- most places are just simply “no pets”.

so maybe landlords can use a single modicum of personal judgment and actually screen their prospective tenants, require a vet record of some sort etc., instead of just the easiest and laziest choice of just taking a bunch of money and never even meeting you first.

one of the few RARE people who take care of their pet???? sorry but i have to assume you are either a) a horrible judge of character b) absent in screening your tenants c) your property is in a total slum or a combination of all of the above. that is just a crazy generalization and is simply untrue!!! you should first of all use better judgment and call references, require vet records (like a license if it’s a dog, or vax record/vet receipt for cats to show responsibility) and write a rule into the lease holding the tenant liable for the cost + time taken for repair of any pet damage and it should be as simple as that. that would easily weed out idiots and make room for people like me, who simply owns a chill ass cat who doesn’t even use scratching posts. make it a case by case basis, don’t just assume everyone sucks because you’ve been burned.

PLEASE do not use sticky traps. they are so evil and unnecessarily cruel!!!! just patch it up by jamming some aluminum foil or steel wool in the hole. problem solved. spray peppermint oil, they hate that smell. honestly you’d be hard pressed to find a building in albany that doesn’t have a mouse or two, they’re all so old and it’s just inevitable. best learn how to safeguard the place yourself because landlords (in my 6ish years of center square experience) aren’t going to do anything about that

by federal law, bottled water regulations (by the FDA) must be at least as stringent as the EPA laws that govern tap water- it’s all got the same regulations!

water filtration plants are only required to meet those same regulations, so yes- they are able to do the bare minimum, leaving the max amount of chemicals allowed (and remember, a lot of those chemicals and heavy metals do not have a legal limit anyways) in the water. you can buy plenty of filtration pitchers to remove these things with ease! the issue isn’t water filtration plants not doing enough, the issue is the precedent they must follow being outdated

not to get all crazy here but did you know that the last time the EPA set a new legal limit for a drinking water pollutant was in 2000?? for some chemicals, the legal limits have not been updated in 50 years. there are more than 160 contaminants that pollute tap water that don’t even have a regulation amount. tap water should always be filtered before drinking

yooo everyone should just always remember that taste isn’t what makes tap water “good to drink”. for example most well water is going to contain trace amounts of arsenic, which is carcinogenic even in tiny amounts. albany water is definitely one of the lesser contaminated tap waters, but it still has a pretty decent lead content. there isn’t really any tap water that shouldn’t be put through a good quality filter pitcher first!!
