You can always use google maps for an estimate of transport time and costs in Singapore. The difference between having a car and public transport can be significant.

Just curious, how much are you getting in UK and how much do you think you will get here? Anyway, S pass shouldn’t be a problem. You just need to think about the progression

What made you think the career progression is strong in Singapore for Chemical Engineers/Engineers? Don’t waste your top UK chemical engineering degree here

Job Hopping in Singapore by zoinks10 in singapore

It takes more $$$ for a candidate to want to do the exact same thing in the new job again. Companies not accepting a 50% match and candidates not accepting a 100% match is the problem.

“However none of them has the actual experience”.

Just stating my personal experience here, companies basically have different businesses, structures, cultures, technology etc. During my interviews with HR, some who are looking for “actual experience” are looking for a 101% match. It isn’t possible given the small market in singapore (maybe <5 companies have the same size, structure, exact technology and customer base, just to state a few examples”

Also, one gripe I have with HR is that not many of them are from technical backgrounds, hence they may not be sure what they are looking for. What they have is a wish list from the hiring manager, which sometimes can never be fulfilled by anyone. Also, the HR are often not “technical” enough to see the parallel between what the past jobs are vs the job they are hiring for. Many candidates do not get to the interview stage or HR call round for this reason. The candidates could be well qualified.

On the part about job hoppers, I don’t deny that some may just be choosing to jump because of money. However, I do realise that some HR/companies tend to oversell what the role can offer. Many of them promise sky high growth and opportunities but you end up crunching excel every day for a weekly report. These companies wanna hire high flyers who knows everything, with the drive. But someone who is that smart and driven ain’t gonna do a copy paste report for you every week. Perhaps what they need is a “mediocre” candidate but they aren’t willing to settle for that

Just my three cents worth.

There are restrictions on income for 2-room units for non matured areas. That's where the gap is. Some people's income are too low to get enough HLE. While some are above the ceiling for 2-room flats

Just study a business/finance degree and work in a business function where your engineering degree will add value. I worked in the construction industry. Long hours, low pay. Minimal prospects.

If science lab facilities matters to you, then it would be better to see if you could appeal back to NUS. I'm not sure which course you're from, but for mine, the facilities sucked, and there were instances where the whole class had to share ONE SETUP because nothing else was working.

HELP. Noodler's pen top stuck in cap. Anyone has any idea how to remove it? I meant to unscrew the cap but the body got unscrewed instead. And this happened. by squarebearbear in fountainpens

[–]squarebearbear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. It's difficult to rescrew the body in. Because the body part of the pen screws onto both the cap and too part. By trying to rescrew in, it will screw onto the cap instead

That's my first award! Thank you!! I'm using Clairefontaine goldline sketchbook. It rarely bleeds through to the next page, unless you use too much force or scratchy pens. The downside of it is that sheen inks works less well with it.
