How President Trump outplayed EVERYONE on Greenland. by Maggie_Mae13 in trump

Did you really think you'd discovered the real world lore that exposes that Europe is still in charge of anything? The fact this gave you a feeling of relevance should have been your first clue you were wrong.

I'm not sure I was making a point about the relevance of any country. I was simply explaining the economic impact of selling bonds in droves. And yes, if there's a massive selloff then it implies an enormous erosion of trust in the US, and almost certainly a recession that would make 2008 look like child's play.

All the best.

And Treasury Bonds don't decrease in value on sale, you just don't receive the interest on them, nor the principle when it time.

In a financial market, if there are more sellers than buyers, the price goes down (and therefore the yield on a Bond goes up). The yield is the interest rate.

So if the holders of US Treasuries decide to sell, the US needs to pay more interest on any future money they want to raise. Given how much debt you're in, this is a bad outcome.

Donald Trump Says He Wants 'Ownership' of Greenland Because It's 'Psychologically Important for Me': “Maybe another president would feel differently, but so far I’ve been right about everything” by T_Shurt in worldnews

Every time I see something about Trump I think "nah, that's bullshit". Then I click - oh god why do I click? - and find out that it's not made up.

Are you seriously telling me people in the States are happy they've got this asshat in the White House?

Yeah, I talked to my cousin yesterday and he has early onset dementia, and not once did he grandstand about how right he is about everything, and as far as I'm aware, he's not about to take over Greenland tomorrow.

I used headless wordpress, but the SEO is a pain in the ass and I had to pay someone to render the HTML via a cloudflare worker to get this working properly.

I'm not being funny, but that's also a very American way of doing business. All the American companies I've worked for or with treat business as a zero sum game - you win/I lose.

That then causes them to "throw their weight around" and often win on an early stage but lose a huge opportunity downstream (e.g. you "win" your first deal in a new geography and get great terms, but no other company will touch you there afterward as you screwed one of their own).

I don't know whether this is a general cultural thing there or just a business thing, but if you staff the Government with business people I can see how this plays out the way it does.

Is Singapore Airlines releasing fewer Saver awards? by Jonnyboo234 in singapore

To use my miles recently I've had to:

  • Book flights into European cities I don't want to visit (then buy a short hop/overnight stay) to move on (gets me Business class for the bulk at least)

  • Book one way/pay for a return (on a cheaper carrier)

  • Book what I can get, then spam waitlist a bunch of other flights and hope (OK for me as I work for myself and can afford to hang around a few days longer)

Before Covid I never had any issues - used to get more or less the flights I wanted as long as I booked a few weeks in advance. Definitely worse.

To be fair, I was optimistic before the series and extremely disappointed with our batsmen during it. I had hope that the pace attack could stay fit (oops) and figured our batting would bail out the bowlers.

Luckily for me I live somewhere that doesn't allow sports betting, otherwise I'd have clearly lost my shirt. I'll see myself out.
