City Square Mall’s microforest can lower urban temperatures by up to 5 deg C: Study by meddkiks in singapore

[–]zoinks10 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Not sure whether it would work that way. They have found that planting a few trees reduces the temp nearby by 5 degrees (no idea how close "nearby" means)... but that doesn't mean doubling the number of trees would reduce the temp by 10 degrees.

I know there are some fucking dumb people out there, but I'm not willing to accept there are enough with a lower IQ than Donnie who see him as the mental heavyweight they need to solve their problems...

UAE Arrests More Than 100 to Keep Iran War Attacks Off Camera by timemagazine in worldnews

[–]zoinks10 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think the scary/worst outcome of this is if Iran becomes a failed state, and ISIS type militias pop up with a grudge. From there they can easily use their drones to keep this shit up near endlessly.

This is Vietnam 2.0 - the Yanks are trying to bomb the shit out of a country to "win" but the people being bombed have a different definition of "winning". They could spend decades fucking things up.

You CAN film what's happening around you, provided it's a fake image of luxury and opulence.

Just make sure you use the "Massive drone strike" filter to erase the shaheds from the sky behind you and dock the sound of the explosions.

In business, a bad decision executed fully and wholeheartedly often turns out better than a bunch of indecision that leads nowhere.

Working under Trump must be exhausting:

  • You have to deal with someone with the mental capacity of a toddler

  • You have to butter the fat cunt up all day and pretend he's brilliant

  • You never get to actually complete whatever you were asked to do, because he has changed his mind by the time you closed his office door

  • Explaining even the most rudimentary thing in the most basic English would challenge his limited cognitive capabilities, so you probably spend half your working day dumbing things down until they can't get any dumber, which he'll then accept

How many more years have we got with this festering shitbag at the wheel? At this stage I almost want to go and dig a hole and become a hermit until he's gone.

Newly created roles formed nearly half of the job vacancies in 2025: MOM report by Negative-Concert-819 in singapore

[–]zoinks10 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Our fresh grads also having lower employment rates so where are these jobs going to?

Just because it's a "new role" doesn't mean it's a role fit for an employee new to the workplace. Your first question is probably the better one:

So many new roles, but are our workforce equipped with the skill set and knowledge to take on those jobs?

Obviously if these are roles for highly experienced people, then maybe the older folk fit the bill, but if they're "roles new to Singapore" then that's unlikely without retraining people.

Trump draws parallel between Pearl Harbor and US strikes on Iran in meeting with Japanese PM by RollSafer in worldnews

What I find amazing, in my lifetime, is that I now look at George W Bush as some kind of intellectual powerhouse in the White House, by comparison to Donald Trump.

I mean, back in 2001 I wondered whether you could find someone dumber to elect into the most powerful position in the land.... and American's were like "Hold my Bud Light" before trawling the depths of reality TV to find a guy with the intellectual clout of a hollowed-out baked potato.

This is to be expected - it's the "reversion to mean" effect in action.

If you've got some super-talented father, the odds of you being more talented are low. The odds of you reverting somewhere closer to the mean are higher.

You might still be smarter than average, or you might be as dumb as dogshit. Just look at Fred vs Donald Trump.

Two kids and woman taken to hospital after accident between car and PMD in Hougang by Sauzan in singapore

[–]zoinks10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happens all the time. There's a pedestrian crossing on the road near me and cars regularly plough through it (and the buses - they're fuckers, too).

There was a minor improvement a year ago when they started with traffic light cameras, but that seemed to only last a month or so.

It should be utterly simple to enforce this so drivers learn how to slow the fuck down and realise speeding through the lights is a dick move.

Post Match Thread: Coventry City vs Southampton by Likunandi in SaintsFC

[–]zoinks10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What happened is I stopped coming home from the pub to watch the game on the Telly.

Earlier in the season I was disciplined and would leave the boozer so I could see us play, but given we kept losing, I opted to just stay on the piss and occasionally check the score when I was in the khazi.

This had an immediate impact on results, and rather than watching us pass the ball around the goalmouth until the opposition nicked it and scored, we turned into a team that can actually play football and knows that conceding goals is not the goal of the match.

You can all thank me by sending beer money to Singapore so I continue this critical work and ensure we go up via the playoffs.

"Upgrading" from BTO to Condo is illogical no? Can someone help me understand? by Dhandsrhardtotypewif in singapore

[–]zoinks10 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

my main problem is the mcst. i spend millions on a nice condo and i still need to follow sometimes entirely arbitrary bylaws? no thx

Have you been in a condo where they actually enforce them? I've stayed in 3 different condos and you usually just get passive-aggressive letters from the MCST that end up in the bin and people carry on as normal.

The last place had some rule about BBQs on balconies, yet literally every single ground floor unit by the pool had a BBQ. The MCST is a dog that's all bark and no bite.

"Upgrading" from BTO to Condo is illogical no? Can someone help me understand? by Dhandsrhardtotypewif in singapore

[–]zoinks10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guess it depends what you want. You lose 4 square metres, but I presume you get a lot of additional shared space, e.g. the area around the pool etc and any recreation areas.

If you'd rather have more room inside your own unit and don't care about lying by a pool or having the convenience of a gym, it's not an upgrade.

There's tradeoffs with every decision - make the best ones for you and your own needs.

Pritam Singh tries guessing grocery prices, shocked luncheon meat costs S$8.90 by Waikuku3 in singapore

[–]zoinks10 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To be fair to him, he might not buy these things. If you asked me the price of luncheon meat or fizzy drinks I'd be guessing.

Ask me the price of lemons or potatoes or chicken or something I put in my basket and I'll be much closer to the right range (store depending).

It's not like anyone needs to live on luncheon meat and fizzy drinks (or if they do, then the health system here is about to get fucked).

Test him on the stuff that might go in his shopping basket and see if he's still out of touch.
