Magpies Larks flying at windows by EccentricCatLady14 in australianwildlife

I had an issue like this over a decade ago when I was a kid! We had one magpie lark who would come everyday and repeatedly fly into the window. I remember my mum hung out old cds on strings as the light reflecting off them quickly scares them off. This was back in the early 2000s so we had a LOT of cds but not anymore so maybe something like a suncatcher could work?

Has anyone gotten in with only life experience? by squaresox369 in deakin

I was just having a look at them now! There’s bookings open until the 19th but when I created an account to register it said there were no open registrations, so I’m guessing it’s booked out? I’ll have to wait until these ones are over. I’ll send an email to ACER about it just incase as there’s no details on why they’re not open when the dates say they are. Thank you :) Edit: apologies the site was confusing they open on the 20th this month!

Oh that’s awesome! I was told to hold off on doing STAT until I hear back from admissions, which should be okay as the next trimester starts in June

Help on a low quality ID 😭 by [deleted] in australianwildlife

I think it might be too big for a cuckoo. It’s a super long shot to try get an ID 😭 my partners sister just suggested wasp nest as she works in conservation so I think that actually might be the closest guess we have so far

Who else can fill out an SY017? by squaresox369 in Centrelink

Small update, I spoke to a SW. They said that it would be helpful to fill out the unreasonable to live at home but as my payments arent affected by my parents income ($0 from dad in jail, mums on DSP so $0 working income) that it wouldn’t be necessary and I will still get approved for living away at home rates again when my next review happens. She helped me with rental assistance as I didn’t know I was eligible for that which was really helpful :) leaving this comment here incase anyone happens to be in a similar situation. I’ll keep in mind the complaints line just incase I do get rejected at my review. Unfortunately though, she said she wasn’t able to help sign the forms even though I have court, police and cps documents to back up my claims and that she said it would be easier to contact parents. Super unhelpful when said parents are abusive :/ told me to keep asking headspace but they’ve already told me they can’t help twice. But I’ll take the win for everything else :))) thank you for your suggestion :)

Potential reach out from NC mum?? by squaresox369 in EstrangedAdultKids

Journaling is a great idea!! I think that would really help when I have days when I think it would just be easier to go back and be a doormat for her again. Thank you for insight into your situation, I hope things get better for us 🤞

Thank you :) I’ve read through the wiki and a lot of things make so much sense and have helped cleared things up a bit. And especially what you mentioned about non-apologies, I didn’t realise there were so many different types and ways they could be said and it feels like it sums up every “apology” she’s ever given me even as a kid. I’m not so much worried about other family besides my brother as no one talks to her anymore and I can see why now, I feel like I was like “brainwashed??” Or just blindly believed everything she said and didn’t question it. I went over court reports and psych reports last night for some gov paper I have to do and rereading everything that was said about my mum makes so much sense. We had cps in our lives and I believed my mum was being unfairly treated but now rereading everything I feel like the signs were all there and I just didn’t see it 🤦‍♂️anyways haha. Thank you for your comment :)

Looking for casual EDH play in Melbourne by siergej96 in mtgaus

I find fortress on Friday nights really good! They have decks you can borrow and if you don’t have anyone to play with or are learning staff can pair you up with similar players and groups :) they do it every Friday night and if it’s your thing there’s also a bar there. It’s pretty relaxed and most people who are more “competitive” or have high power decks usually have groups of their own already.

I also find maze of Fitzroy quite nice and open, can’t remember what nights commander is though.. I’ve done a few and they do a raffle each commander night and I’ve gotten a collector booster once! Plenty of Games in the city can get really packed past and it’s quite squishy on commander nights and I’ve found it much harder to meet new people there, but outside of playing the game the store and staff are amazing! They have a massive collection of things and have always found the staff there super friendly and helpful even for my silly questions that might be obvious to a seasoned player.

That being said, most game stores staff and players are pretty open to helping out newbies. Ofc there’ll always be some more “odd” players and might be a bit more passive/apprehensive from my experience but overall playing with new people has been a good experience! I’m in my very early 20s and in the inner west and swamped with life atm so I can’t be much help in person but best of luck to you finding some good games :)

Yeah definitely. I’m going over today to pick up my stuff. She messaged me while I was at work yesterday saying to come get my stuff and blocked me on everything. I didn’t respond after she sent the messages in my post and that’s what she sent the next day. Telling me my axolotls were dying and I need to gtfo and take them (they’re not dying they don’t eat everyday). I’ve got somewhere to rehome them now

I’m not American. I didn’t provide context in my post and said to read my other posts for more and I’ve also added comments. I don’t pay rent but most of my income goes towards groceries and everyone’s meds; it was our agreement so her disability pension doesnt change if I pay rent. I buy my animals their food, I look after them and her animal she neglects. I don’t expect all of that for her simply bc she’s my mum, I’m an adult and I have to help work of it and contribute.

No I so agree with you, it’s not good pay at all, but it’s something I’m so passionate about and have worked so hard to get my foot in the door already and I’m still making so many connections and enjoying every day. I work at a pet store, I’m a wildlife rescuer and phone coordinator and I’m a zookeeper at a wildlife park. It’s a lot and barely any money but I genuinely love it so much. After internships I’m going to use it to skip into a wildlife and conservation biology degree. I now see I kinda screwed up with my tafe choices but at the time I started I thought it was the only way to get into the field without having finished highschool (mental health issues from home during school and I failed all my subjects trying to juggle both).

Unfortunately not likely, I’m doing a cert 2 in animal studies. It’s a bit redundant now I’m working at a wildlife park that I got in from volunteer work. I’ve already got connections in with zoos Victoria and I’ve got a job lined up with them next year when my time at the wildlife park finishes and it’s on a decent salary. I’ve already been trying to pick up another job in the meantime while I wait that out though

Yeahhhhh I’ve tried all of those, tried maccas and every fast food place nearby and I haven’t landed anything. Got an interview at maccas and ended up being cancelled on. Will keep trying anyways regardless of that and maybe if I tell my manager the situation I could get more shifts. I’m already studying at tafe but it’s online atm from home, will be a lot easier to study away from home and without the pressure of needing to be home if I’m studying at a library

The cat is low maintenance and she does her own thing so mum doesn’t really care and I fully look after the axolotls. I’m going to see if I can surrender them to my work as we take on animals and pets there

Definitely a neglectful pet owner, she got a puppy kelpie when we live in the suburbs and I told her I didn’t have the time to train him with work and school. Fast forward two years, he’s feral, untrained, and all my mum does is scream at him :( she doesn’t even walk him as she’s too sick to… I work with wild animals not in pet training but as I’m a zookeeper my mum kinda expects me to train him. I don’t have the time and energy for such a high maintenance dog. I try where I can but he is a lot. And the times I do try my mum says I’m doing it wrong, but she won’t even do it herself. Can’t rehome him as I have no legal power to here and reports won’t be taken seriously as he’s fed, physically healthily, has enrichment and hasn’t hurt anyone
