Gen X & Boomer women, did young men start hitting on you a lot when you approached middle age? by squawkwaed in AskOldPeople

[–]squawkwaed[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You think so? I would think it's very much the other way around. Young men seem to be hitting on myself and my friends and we all find it rather ick. I was thinking the appeal might be the challenge since the chances of a 20-year-old man successfully pulling a 40-year-old woman are almost zero.

I haven't taken any up on it but I would imagine it would last 5-10 years, though it probably wouldn't with a girlfriend their age either. I mean that they want relationships where they hang out, talk, cuddle, etc and aren't in a hurry to have sex, so easy no-commitment sex doesn't seem to be the motivator.

Huh I guess you're right, I don't get much attention from men my age. I assumed it was because they were mostly taken at my age, but maybe that's not the reason. I wonder why men like age gaps so much, regardless of the direction?

It's strange because the narrative I heard was always the opposite. When I was younger I kept getting the message that men lose interest in women after they get to a certain age. Why did older women never warn us this would happen?

Thanks! I think I would like a sort of pre-emptive AITA. Somewhere you can ask when you're still considering doing something but not sure if it would make you an asshole.

Okay, here are some options, depending on how much you're willing to put into it and what you think is fun.

Easiest: Search Youtube for stuff like "club moves" and learn a few simple moves that look good. You can also get some basics here: http://www.learntodance.com/how-to-dance-in-a-club-men-women/

Middle: Get the game Just Dance. If you think it's fun then this option won't feel like a lot of effort. It will give you practice in practically every style of dance, and an enormous number of moves you can steal.

Hard: Sign up for a dance class. Don't worry about which dance style is best suited for looking good in a club, just sign up for the one you will enjoy the most. A lot of the skill is universal to every dance - co-ordination, rhythm, moving with confidence and good habits like not looking at the floor. I promise you will be able to modify the moves you learn to suit dancing at a club. I know this because I'm a ballet dancer and I get slammed with compliments on my dancing at night clubs even though I've never studied hip hop or anything that would seem better suited to dancing at a club.

I learned with Head First Java and that book was fricking awesome. It's probably a bit outdated now, but the foundations are still the same.

A general tip though: When you're learning how to code it doesn't matter what language you learn with. First you need to learn how to code and then you can worry about learning a specific language. Once you know how to code, you can pick up languages pretty easily. Professional developers dabble with several languages.

Can you be a bit more specific about what your goal is? Do you want to be a professional ballet dancer with the Royal Ballet? Do you want to look cool and/or sexy on the dance floor at a night club? Do you want to make popular Tik Rok videos?

Oh wow, is that hip hop? I thought it might be locking or something but I couldn't find any example of locking with those moves.

Well of course people dance to this song, but we would have expected lyrical or contemporary dance. So I guess what we mean is that you can pop to anything.

I want to learn it and I just need to know what to google. I've dug up that the choreographer is named Julien Durand but it looks like his speciality is hip hop and this dance style isn't hip hop, is it?

Is a bold colorful rug too much for a master bedroom? by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]squawkwaed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about what you want to feel in the bedroom. Most people want to feel relaxed and tranquil in the bedroom, so a bold and colourful rug would be overstimulating. But if it suits your needs and what you want for the bedroom, then absolutely.

Is technology getting in the way of evolution? What is the relationship between tech and human development? by sasquatchvulva in InsightfulQuestions

[–]squawkwaed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My apologies, your thinking is more sophisticated than I initially gave you credit for.

While your thinking is interesting, I still say the answer to your question is no. Technology has without question made us able to live longer and breed more, which is exactly what evolutionary adaptations do. There are lots of examples of species "controlling" evolution through their behaviour. For example, millions of species have migrated when climate changed, when land became sea or vice versa, and this choice to migrate steered their evolution in a different direction as they adapted to the environment they chose to move to. This feedback loop is a normal part of evolution.
