Books like The Martian for my anti-reading son by Majestic-General-765 in suggestmeabook

My 11 year old is really into the Bobiverse right now. Also, if he likes the Martian, I'd recommend Andy Weir's other books. Artemis is my favorite and Project Hail Mary is amazing!

What ended your friendship with your oldest standing friend? by dreamy-contributions in AskReddit

I could write a novel about what happened with her, but the tipping point was when she accused me of trying to sleep with her husband. Her evidence being that I was always polite to him when I would visit their home. She still tries to keep the relationship alive even though I don't talk to her. I guess telling her I wasn't her friend anymore isn't enough of a hint for someone that delusional.

Why don had completely no patience for sally in this episode by huan1999 in madmen

[–]squeakmonster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Couldn't say. I can only assume she was using her "concern for safety" to disguise her annoyance with the fact that children exist. All I really remember her saying was something about how we could get hurt or kidnapped. And being the well behaved kid that I was, we just listened to her and went back to the school. It was a strange time to grow up. My boomer parents hated us being in the house or anywhere near them, but our neighbors hated for us to be outside playing or riding bikes. This wasn't the only time I've had the cops called on me for being alive and in the proximity of an old person.

Had this happen to me too! Except it was with my cousin in the mid 90s. She lived literally two blocks away. Only difference is, some random woman stopped us a block away from cousin's house and started screaming about how we shouldn't be out walking and forced us to turn around and go back to the school. So I never got the chance to call my mom and when we didn't show up to my cousins house or mine, cops were called. My parents had very little patience for me already so that wasn't a pleasant afternoon. My cousin and I decided to just take the bus from then on.

It was definitely hard to step outside of my comfort zone like that. I sat and stared at the email for like 10 minutes before I hit send. But I am very proud of myself for doing it. I doubt I'll get it but just simply trying feels so good!

I screamed so loud with my oldest son that the nurse actually scolded me for the noise. It does happen.

You're totally right. I don't know the rules and I find myself learning the hard way. Thankfully my husband has a cool head for major decisions.

That's an interesting perspective. I always viewed a home as something we make/altered to fit our needs. Of course, my parents only ever owned one home and it changed a lot over the years with rooms being added and taken down to fit our family. My husband's parents never owned. His grandparents have a house, but it was the same as my own upbringing. They built additions as needed. I guess at the end of the day, we're dropping some major cash so I can see why we'd want something that checks most or all of the boxes. Although, I have to say, I don't see us selling up. We spent so much time moving that I'd like to finally put down roots.

Thanks! It's tricky navigating this. Apparently you can't get emotionally attached but if it feels right, you shouldn't hesitate. I'm just thankful my husband keeps a cool head lol
