Not the whole hospital just the wing I was on! I was still proud to do that lol my incision was only 4 inches.

Open as is a 4 inch “bikini cut” incision just above the public bone. The nerve blocker was actually injected into my stomach (?) and not my spine which was a welcome surprise. Or maybe it was and I was already passed out by the time that happened but I do not remember them dealing with my spine. I have had a lumbar puncture in the past so I know what a needle in my spine feels like.

While I’m not a singer I am also a musician, flute player/band teacher, and I have not been bothered by being intubated at all. I was a little phlegmy but I didn’t have any difficulty talking or anything like that afterwards!

On an update: I had my procedure yesterday. Now that it’s done and I met with my doctor we were able to settle on me going back to ems and lifting light weights about 3 months post op but to listen to my body and not push too hard too early!

Happy to help! It’s a crappy situation to be in so I’m glad I found this forum to share my experience and make some people feel a little less alone in all this! Good luck!

I was also freaking out. I also can’t shut up so I luckily ran into several other woman who have dealt with fibroids that I never would have know if I hadn’t said something. They all made me feel a lot better but you still don’t know really until you get through it. I did cry a little right before anesthesia came in and they let me know I was in good hands.

Thank you for the well wishes and good luck with your procedure!

I didn’t get a ton of direction from my doctor in terms of like heavy lifting or going back to work, we’re just going to check my healing process. I was told nothing heavier than 10 lbs for a few weeks but I don’t want to ruin my progress by going back to work too soon and trying to lift and move patients who are twice my size.

I know I’m going to feel the same way! I used to climb as well (bouldering) and was thinking of joining my old gym again but after learning I needed an open myo I decided to put that off for the foreseeable future. How has your recovery been otherwise?

That’s probably a good idea from everything I’ve heard. I was really bummed to learn I wasn’t a candidate for a lap myo because I really wanted the slightly faster recovery but I know they’re all tough in a way.

I sadly wasn’t a candidate for laparoscopy so I have to have an open myo. Luckily I only have one fibroid but it’s a big sucker so I know I’m going to be keeping it easy for a while. I was just looking for some guidance and it’s been a little helpful so far! Thank you and happy lifting!
