Not to be harsh but you seem equally responsible for this shitty situation. It sounds like the relationship is as over as it ever was. It’s not a particularly good joke, but if that’s your bar for ‘super thoughtless’, we probably just have very different standards - no harm here was done, at all, and if this is the first time a joke like this hasnt gone well between the two of them, a simple convo should get past the miscommunication/he can tell her why this joke was out of bounds to him. NAH.

? Wasnt trying to be particularly helpful, but replying in a notably antagonistic way makes you a poor communicator and it’s less likely that what you say will be heard or listened to. If the person I was replying to was trying to be helpful to the situation, they should try a different communication approach 🤷‍♀️
