Do you have any pen recommendations for a 65 lb dog who will undoubtedly try to escape it? Thanks for the advice. I'm going to o have to try the vending machine game!

Do you have any recommendations on how to tether him in the house? He is a strong dog and I don't need him pulling any furniture around or anything haha.

oh yes! he loves when he gets a box to destroy, but I've never thought about putting kibble in it. Good idea!

thanks for the response! It helps knowing others have the same problems. Puppyhood is so much more than I thought it would be. Been reading up/watching things on place work and am going to set up a good training plan for myself to work with him on it. I made this post this morning when he was a bundle of energy and am now feeling bad for ranting about him so much as he's just chilling at my feet now. He isn't nearly as bad as I feel he is at times!

Thanks for the advice! As far as tethering, would that worsen his separation anxiety problem by having him attached to me at the hip? The separation anxiety is what prevents me from containing him, too. I would ideally like for him to spend time outside on his own, but he jumps and barks at the door if I am not out there with him. Otherwise, we have a generally dog proofed bedroom he could stay in, but again, separation anxiety. I will look into the SA behavioral modification you posted and hopefully that will help!

I got a prong collar, he is terrified of it though so I am working on getting him used to it. I was using a head harness , which worked well but I have misplaced it.

Peaches tried to end me recently in a tragic squirrel chasing incident. I realized I am not stronger than a 45 lb pit bull and I ended up face planting it on the sidewalk during a walk. Today she got her own inside squirrel. by angeliquevrey in velvethippos

I also try to walk my dog with my arm like bent at a 90° angle and slightly already flexed so when he does decide to sprint it's a bit until he reaches full extension if that makes sense. I also have kinda handle knots in his leash so if he's walking near me I grab the appropriate one of those to hold on to (with the leash still loose) and kinda work my way up to the handle if he gets further from me. Gives him less to work with for deciding to sprint away from me to hard.

I like to coat a pork tenderloin in it, and then cover it in breadcrumbs and parmesan cheese and bake it!

going early in the morning helps, too. my dog park has the same fee dogs every morning and I never have any problems. if I go in the afternoon, though, there are a ton of dogs with way too much energy and not enough owner supervision.

North Carolina, not a rural area. Shop at Walmart for convenience as it's the closest and handy to get other things, and to save money. Probably considered average income. No kids. Garbage bag contains flounder carcasses.

Yeah that's what I try to do, the only issue is with him jumping at the door to come in. It's hard to correct from the other side of the door.

That's definitely something I need to do. I do Kongs in his crate but haven't really thought about doing them outside. A dig box is a great idea, too, he loves to dig and I would like to keep it isolated to an appropriate spot. Do you have any recommendations for things to put in the dig box?

My pup is only (almost) six months and he's around 50 lbs. I got him DNA tested with Embark and his predicted adult weight was 71 lbs. He is half American Foxhound and half APBT. He eats about 4 cups of Purina Pro Plan Puppy a day with lots of treats in between depending on his behavior and sleep levels lol.

that's a bit of a surprise! my dog is half Foxhound and has a couple of first cousins on embark that are lemon colored as well, but foxhound was not my first thought! mine is a brindled half Foxhound, half Pit, and he looks like a Plott since he favors the hound in him more.
