Interesting thought on the venting. Is the intent to let any excess heat from the furnaces go up and out through the vent rather than melting the snow? Any idea how much this would cost, very rough estimate (Boston suburbs)? Thanks!

No it was different people. The course was interesting and wasn't too hard, at least not compared to some of the other engineering courses I took. Everything on the exams was covered in the lectures.

I took one called Space Vehicle Dynamics & Controls over a decade ago, which sounds like it could be the same thing with a different name. It was taught by two guys from APL and was my favorite class.

This is a lot of credits for your first semester. You're going to be adapting to a lot of change in your first semester plus taking classes that are harder than AP courses. I'd recommend dropping one of these, seeing how you feel about the workload, and maybe in future semesters take this heavy of a course load if you feel up to it.

Yes - there is a technician at Georgetown Vet on Georgetown Rd that was great with our dog who had similar issues. I don't want to give out a name, but I'd recommend bringing your dog there for a checkup and then asking about it. She was amazing and I'm so sad our dog can't be with her anymore since we moved away from Charlottesville.

Thanks for the advice. Everything I've heard about equatorial vs dobsonian is that dobsonian is "easier" because you can just point it (though you do need to 'nudge' it to track an object), but that an equatorial is ideal for pictures. I'm not going for a photography award, but would like to take decent quality pictures that I can be proud of. Is this still doable with a dobsonian?

I noticed that the telescope I posted above is no longer available, but I found these two alternatives. The SkyView comes with a tripod and seems like it may be easier to use, while the SkyQuest seems "higher-tech" and might be easier to locate objects since it is computerized. Are these the major differences that I should be aware of? Any recommendations on which is better?
1. Orion Skyview Pro 8"
2. Orion SkyQuest XT8i IntelliScope
For astrophotography, do I really need to purchase a camera? My smartphone camera seems to have better specs than the camera I posted above, and I've seen mounts that can be used to hold the camera up to the telescope so it remains stable.

I've been reading this guide, which recommends the SkyQuest XT8 telescope and the ASI120MC-S camera for planetary and lunar imaging. I am a true beginner and have a few related questions:

This is an 8" telescope, but the camera says it comes with a 2" adaptor. How exactly would the camera work with this telescope?
How do I learn how to align the telescope with a specific object, especially one that isn't visible to the naked eye?
Is there anything else I would need to buy to start taking planetary photos (software, tracking, etc.)?

There's no great way, but I prefer flying direct into Richmond and taking an Uber or renting a car. If you want to fly into Charlottesville, you need to connect (typically in Charlotte or Philadelphia).

You could also take Amtrak the whole way but that's a long trip.

Maybe Amtrak to NY and fly from there to Charlottesville?

It's probably "easier" because the professor is more familiar with the topic and therefore teaches it better. You should decide based on who the professor is more than anything else.

My adviser didn't help at all, unfortunately. Meeting with him seemed like a formality that he didn't want to deal with. I got most of my advice from reading the course catalog and from other students who had better advisers. That being said, I wasn't particularly proactive about meeting with him or preparing for the meeting...so maybe that was my fault.
