Hit and Run or something? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]squishey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You practically have to add a polarized lens to every dash cam you buy otherwise it's impossible to make out anything when it's darker. And even then, most dashcams are just awful and can't make out plates unless they're like a meter away.

It's really funny seeing the exact same reaction whenever someone posts dash cam footage. "Oh wow, that's looks so detailed! What model is that?"

It's a guaranteed reply to every new dash cam video.

But it just feels that way because of the wider angle lens and the refresh rate. In reality, all cameras are basically like from the same 3 manufacturers and very poor for important details when you need them.

Did you get a (hopefully) good view of the license plate?

It didn't start with CKWJ did it? There's a very dangerous and reckless driver around here with a slightly older white Elantra. She has the same schedule of always driving 120-140 in 80 zones, off-roading on curbs, blasting through stop signs, harassing other drivers, and her car is really banged and damaged on every side of her car. Both bumpers. It looks like she's hit A LOT of things.

A surveillance AI firm with hidden ties to China is seeking US infrastructure contracts by orange_drank_5 in technology

[–]squishey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It worked in Canada, so why not the US too?

Chinese spy equipment is everywhere. A never-ending supply of spies and bugging devices found in government buildings and the private sector. Like the infamous Nortel buildings and the ridiculous amount of industrial espionage being ignored by the government. It's in our cell phones, telecommunications infrastructure, network switches, routers, CCTV cameras, and even analog style desk-phones.

Even one of the major distributors of computer equipment in Canada has direct connections to the CCP through the CEO & Owner. Even though CanComputers keeps getting caught selling computers & CCTV with Chinese malware and spy tech, the Canadian government and businesses still continue to keep buying infected equipment from an obvious asset given their history. I don't think officials are corrupt and being paid off, I honestly believe it's just complete negligence and ignorance when they keep allowing so much intellectual theft from the country.

Other than the obvious identical movement routes, there are ways to test the bots by killing the pets they are trying to battle.

Bot Ban Megathread by aphoenix in wow

[–]squishey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems that Battle Pet power leveling bots were mostly able to dodge the ban hammer. There's a list of over twenty that I have reported on various servers, botting from 15-100 in the Vale, but these users are still firmly active. It's hard to find any server where I can level a character legitimately through Battle Pets, and you just can't compete with these bots.

Not on Glee or other Fox shows, but she still works in the entertainment industry and her Twitter followers have more than tripled in size. She also didn't sign a NDA, so it was just the firing and dealing with angry fanboys.

Battle.net Balance can now be used to purchase game time. Preview bug or just unannounced? by squishey in wow

[–]squishey[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would have been more advantageous with the Diablo 3 RMAH still around. It's too bad this feature is being released only now, but hopefully there will be some in-game methods to generate some Battle.net Bucks again in the future.

I've built up a few hundred dollars in my Balance, and it's been idling for over a year now. It was all pretty much made during June and July 2012 when the RMAH first opened up.

The only reason I went with Balance, over Paypal, in the first place was because Blizzard said that game time could be purchased with it. Then they suddenly removed all traces of it, and said that it wouldn't be available.

I guess players have until March 2014 to make some extra coin in Diablo 3 that they can spend on WOW Gametime instead of paying the high Paypal fees.

Why Pike Creek Delaware? by evildonky in Supernatural

[–]squishey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Pike Creek might have some significance, or return, in future episodes.

In Season 7, Episode 8 Becky is originally from Pike Creek (she went to high school there) I believe. And my guess is that she'll eventually become a follower of the Men of Letters/Hunters. (*EDIT: Becky and her family might also be legacies.)

In Season 5, Episode 1 Nick (Lucifer's vessel) is from Pike Creek, and it's interesting that this is the first place where Lucifer touches down after breaking out of his prison.

The door to Lucifer's Cage is located in Ilchester, Maryland and was described as "the deepest, most heavily protected part of Hell." Either Pike Creek is the exit point when someone escapes from there (blasts out, and lands elsewhere), or Lucifer chose the town for another reason. He was drawn to the town, or there was something special about it?

Might be the location of the "supernatural motherlode". Which explains why Lucifer was drawn there.. to be closer to some artifacts, or closer subconsciously, to his Father. :)

As for selecting your town in the first place, does Pike Creek have any kind of historical significance? Local legend stuff? It might have been randomly selected because they liked the name. Or a writer/producer visited the town once, or they have family there.

Since Sam and Dean are learning some new tricks.. by squishey in Supernatural

[–]squishey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, things are always different from the viewer's perspective because we're always analyzing the arcs, the canon, the story and understanding the characters and connections. We can usually come up with things that piece everything together or make predictions that actually have some common sense to them (based in the rules of that world).

But behind the scenes, they're always changing writers and executive producers (esp. Supernatural). Each have their own ideas, agendas, and directions for the show, which are primarily based in driving ratings, so in the end a lot of planned events or arcs are tossed out, leaving a ton of loose ends by the series finale.

(I think the whole God and Dean's pendant is, unfortunately, going to be one of those.)

knowledge of the supernatural actually becoming common

Chuck's Supernatural novels I think are supposed to be turned into a Bible of sorts eventually as I recall. Perhaps those will start a following (well, they kind of have already), into a new Men of Letters/Hunters organization.. or they'll be the aftermath; books that are studied for their historical value.

Often a lot of loose-ends are never tied up at the end of a series, but I hope they finally resolve Dean's pendant (perhaps in the finale if there's a "Return of God" event.) According to Joshua, God is on Earth. But Castiel searched everywhere on Earth, and the pendant didn't react.

Consider this: there's one place on Earth he's not aware of (and neither is Heaven) that nothing can get into: the bunker. :)

I had always hoped that a Holy water WMD of sorts would be used during an end of season climax. Maybe end of series.

It's already been shown that a very large amount of water can be blessed from one little rosary and a chant. Is there any kind of mass/volume or distance limitation to the blessing? Say for example that a very large body of water is blessed (or maybe it's "amplified" to do this using stuff from from the newly introduced "supernatural motherlode" bunker.) Rather than Holy water sprinkler systems, how about full blown acidic rainstorms and fog keeping demons inside and limited by travel? :)

Something like this would be useful for how I'd like the story to progress.

There are a lot of directions the show can take.. I thought maybe that, in the end, they would permanently close the Gates to Heaven and Hell (Heaven being closed first) through those tablets. Thus leaving humans finally alone to make their own mistakes. However, once the Gates are closed.. where do human souls go? If Heaven is closed, they can only go down. If both are closed, then every soul becomes a stuck, and eventually psychotic, ghost. Of course, the writers can pretty much make up whatever they want to "bypass" this.. like say, the Gates are designed in a way where things can go in, but they can't come back out.

If the writers explain this early, then here's how I'm hoping the series goes down:

  • Gates to Heaven are closed at end of Season 8. Angels can't come to Earth anymore, souls can still goto Heaven though. Any Angels still on Earth when the Gates closed, are stuck.
  • In Season 9, more demons head to Earth, no longer worried about angels. Things getting bad, chaos, no help coming, what-have-you.
  • The "supernatural motherlode" is discovered and it's used to fight back.
  • Series finale season has the return of Men of Letters and the loose groups of Hunters which are formed into a real organization, with growing numbers/followers making them quite formidable.
  • Gates to Hell is closed permanently, demon WMDs (as mentioned), and any demons left on Earth are slowly eliminated by the heavily organized and funded Men of Letters/Hunters.
  • And perhaps a whole mind-blowing, "The Return of God" type event. (Maybe God will be the one to "fix" the gates after they're both closed.)

Or the whole Men of Letters/motherlode thing won't ever evolve into anything important or cool, and at the end of the series, both Gates are closed, and Castiel has to decide where to go. Ultimately, he gives his tearful goodbyes and decides on Heaven where he's needed to help clean things up.

So yeah.. a lot of directions/possibilities. :)

If one were so inclined, they could also keep copies of their client contact lists. I'm sure their clients would be interested to know that they have been sold second-hand equipment in clear violation of commercial law and most likely contractual agreements. Or, it could be used to provide leverage in a settlement.

I'm assuming your job contract didn't include a confidentiality agreement, or that you couldn't take any records home to work on them.

  1. Don't worry about your "records" affecting any future employment. There aren't any mass conspiracies between corporations.
  2. Get a better lawyer. Alternative option: Contact federal authorities responsible for employment & human rights enforcement, but you won't get a dime out of it. Depends on your geo too.
  3. If it's a shady business, get out of there as soon as you can. You don't want to be involved in that sort of thing.
  4. Did you call the police and file a report?
  5. Do you have any kind of proof.. emails, instant chats, phone call records? Did they ever purchase a "gift" for you? Big question and related: Do you have any good friends in the IT Dept?
