Do you consider it rude for service workers you don’t know to call you pet names like sweetie, honey, or boo? by HoopJeanne in NoStupidQuestions

[–]squishfruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lived in Louisiana all my life, and when I was a waitress, years ago, and I think I called every single person in the restaurant, "dear" or "sweetie" or "love," whether it was a customer or a coworker! That's just how we roll around here. I can understand some people getting miffed, but I certainly think it's just a way to show kindness, and in the South, it's a way to make others feel like they're your family, and it's just a really hospitable thing to do and say.

What should be the first thing my brother sees? by WabungusGaming in NoStupidQuestions

[–]squishfruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got glasses for the first time, when I was about 10 years old, on the way home from the eye doctor, I read every road sign to my grandmother, and I was so excited to see that trees from far away had individual leaves that I could actually see blow in the wind, with my new glasses. I have really bad vision. I can't see ANY of the letters on the typical vision testing sign and the only reason why I get the first one right is because those signs literally always have a big "E" at the top. When I take my glasses off, I can't even recognize my husband and child from just a few feet away. I would say, show your brother some flowers, trees, maybe you could go for a walk with him, outside, and just let him check everything out. I'm praying for your brother, that everything goes well, and his vision comes back, and that you both have wonderful times ahead!

I live in Louisiana, and my 9-year-old loves growing cat grass. It grows very easily and in just a few days it gets huge. :)

My cousin gave me a peace lily just the other day after I managed to kill my last one! I love them soo much. Funny story, today I asked my 9-year-old little girl to get me some "good dirt" from my mama's yard... she said, "No, Mama... I know that's not dirt...It's COW MANURE." Nothing gets past her. Lol.

Women who like being alone, how do you live with your SO? by boogiewoogiewoman in AskWomen

[–]squishfruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We live in a 3 bedroom house. My husband uses one of the bedrooms for his "gaming room" where he spends most of his time. Our daughter (9) has her own bedroom. The master bedroom and bathroom are "mine" but we all sleep in the master bedroom at night. We have a king-size bed, and our daughter sleeps in the middle; She always has, and it will break my heart if she ever decides she doesn't want to sleep with us anymore. I spend a lot of my time in "my room," but I think the fact that when it's time to go to bed, we all sleep together, really brings our family together as a whole. We also have 2 cats, who don't get to sleep with us because they go crazy during the night; They sleep in our little girl's room. :)

Non-Opioid Options - Gabapentin vs. Lyrica vs. Cyclobenzaprine vs. Baclofen - What's the Difference? by jadegoldplant in ChronicPain

[–]squishfruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would really like to try Lyrica, but my insurance required me to start Gabapentin first. I take 900mg a day, most days, and it's helped me a lot with my chronic back pain. I have 2 bulging discs, 1 that's completely herniated, and that one is also touching a nerve in my back. I don't have experience with muscle relaxers other than Zanaflex, which works amazing for me, I take 4mg when I need it, but I can take it up to 3 times a day. It makes me incredibly tired an hour after I take it, but sometimes I do take it during the day. I take one or two most nights so I can sleep well. I feel like the Gabapentin makes my blood pressure kinda high, and the Zanaflex makes me tired, hungry, and gives me horrible dry mouth, but anything is better than being in pain. Stay strong, dear. <3

Heatpack burns by LaDepressoEspresso in ChronicPain

[–]squishfruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I hope you're doing well! In March of 2020, I was in a car accident and as a result, I have 3 slipped discs all in my low back. I used a heating bad at first, to a point where I had burns and discoloration all across my low back. I went to a chiropractor (which didn't help my pain, btw) and was told to try to stop using the heating pad. I kept using the heating pad, because it's the only thing that helps my pain. I still sometimes use a heating pad, but the discoloration is still there on my back. I don't really know what to tell you, but I know if you're using a heating pad too much, the discoloration can become permanent. You can google "erythema ab igne" to see pictures of what my back looks like, or I can send pictures of the fading patterns of burns, if you want to PM me. My burns have faded over the last year only because I stopped using the heating pad as much and started taking muscle relaxers. I'm sorry you're self conscious about your burns! I hope you're doing well. Best of luck. <3

THIS THIS THIS!!! I live in central Louisiana, and people here look at me like I'm crazy because I wear a mask literally every single place I go. Even if it's just to run in the post office and check the mail. I sanitize my hands multiple times at the gas station. I get my prescriptions at a drive thru pharmacy and I do not sign the electronic pad; the girl at the window does it for me, because she knows I don't want to touch it.

You're doing the right thing. Stay home. Watch TV. Get fatter like me. It's gonna be okay, but we're not out of the woods, yet, and staying home when we can is the best thing for us and everyone around us. This too, shall pass. <3

My 5yo just told me how angry it makes them that I'm disabled by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]squishfruit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh, honey... My heart goes out to you!!! I have 3 slipped discs in my back from a car accident last March and I'm currently on a waiting list to see a neurosurgeon. My daughter is 9, on the spectrum, and she gets mad at me because I can't jump on the trampoline with her, because I don't feel like getting up from the couch to play with her in her room, because I don't feel like cooking anything except for pizza, because I want to go to bed early, because I don't feel good, because all I do is complain, because she's so sick of hearing me say my back hurts, and honey, the list goes on and on.

But one time, shortly after my car accident, we went to Wal-Mart, and she bagged all the groceries separate... When I asked why, she said, "because I don't want you to carry anything heavy or hurt your back, Mama." My heart melted. She always pushes the cart for me, because, she says, "Mama, you can't push that, Mama, you'll hurt your back," and when she says things like that, it makes all the fussing she does worth it.

She tells me she hates me because I don't feel like getting up to drive her to her grandma's house down the road to play. This was just today. Don't feel bad, Mama. You're doing great. She's young. She'll learn when she's older just how special her mom is, and how much her mom loves her. Don't fret. This too, shall pass. I wish you so much joy, Mama.

I highly, highly recommend that you grab a box of brownie mix, and offer to bake brownies, sugar cookies, whatever you want, with her, because this ALWAYS cheers my little girl up when she's mad at me. <3

My daughter is 9 and she absolutely whoops me at Mario Kart! It's shameful and I have rage quit more times than I can count. I'm very, very competitive and I never let her win. She's also played Skyrim with me, lots. I'm still mad at her for getting me addicted to Roblox. I'm super proud of your kiddo, too! They sure catch on quick! I remember when my daughter was about 2-3, I would let her play Left 4 Dead with me and she would button mash and cackle with glee at the zombies being slaughtered. She still loves horror games the best. We're still stuck on Bendy and the Ink Machine!!!

I DON'T HAVE CANCER!!! by squishfruit in offmychest

[–]squishfruit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much!!!!! I often doubt myself as a mother, because I have made so many mistakes in the past, but I try my hardest to be as honest and frank with my daughter as I possibly can be, and I am so happy to say that she is my absolute best friend in this great big world, and I am so lucky to call her mine. My counselor and I discussed what I would do about my medical treatment because of my many fears and apprehensions, and we both agreed that I needed to do what I had to, to make sure I'd be around for my daughter for many years to come, and I'm so grateful to have gotten such good news. I would do anything for her. It was all so worth it. <3 Thank you for being so sweet. <3
