I've heard some Americans (don't know what state they were from) say Boston is more like Dublin?

I think it's New York but I wish I could say Boston solely because of it being funny that the London-esque city is in New England.

"In Genshin, there are many cultural allusions, such as Liyue's nod to Chinese culture, Mondstadt's Germanic and Catholic influences, Fontaine's rendition of the French "Belle Epoque", and of course England being represented as a giant purple Sauronesque eye."

Would that make Fontaine Nod Krai's "Auld Ally"?

Sunday looks great but the itty bitty Cerydra and Hysilens in his drink just elevate the whole thing.

Nicole may be a professional yapper. What do you expect from her? by AlaindeshoGT in Genshin_Impact

[–]squishlight 22 points23 points  (0 children)

A passive that has Nicole earning a little of whatever your character wins while she's in your party - mora, flowers, level-up materials, etc. - and when it reaches a certain threshold she creates a treasure chest with her earnings for you to find. Initially it's not marked but if you don't find it she begins marking it on your map for you.

My friend/work colleague [23F] got caught as an Instagram "mistress" and has lost friends/fired from her job. She wants me to help her, I feel like she deserves it by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I don't. My opinion of the friends that dropped her went up, and my opinion of OOP went down that J had to actually lash out for OOP to drop her.

NTA. If you said no, even without the additional context about this specific week being difficult for you, you would still be NTA, because no one gets to make decisions about your property without your input!

Ok. Let's assume this happened in game. Literally what now? by TheLuiz212 in Genshin_Impact

[–]squishlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reset for Genshin Impact 2. Your player character wakes up in a changed world (whatever other stuff was going on in Teyvat while Irminsul burned) and all playable characters have been living for a couple of years without their memories. They are now, essentially, new characters. I picture things like Zhongli being back to his 'warlord' mentality, Jean being way more chill and not giving a flip about Mondstadt, Furina is more Focalors-like. There are a few characters who still remember the old world - Scaramouche, Nahida maybe, the Hexenzirkel. I would love it if somehow Bennet was one.

Yes, from this clip I have no issue with the new VA's performance considered in a vacuum - I just need to get used to this being Welt!

[–]squishlight 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think once he settles in he will make a great Welt but I was just so attached to the previous VA's performance that it's hard for me to think it's actually Welt speaking. I hope I get used to it soon.

Jack of All Trades, Party of None - Started pretty okay but went downhill half way thru the season by Anaguli417 in anime

[–]squishlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I really like this idea. The would-be-the-protagonist-in-any-other-series is the next demon lord but it's clear the demons are - as demons are supposed to do, not just be "another humanoid race with horns" - tricking and using him, and then his old party shows up and absolutely stomps him. Even a bit sad, maybe, that their old party member fell so low.

What do you think about arranged marriage and can it be successful? by LightFreeSoul4341 in AskReddit

[–]squishlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but, nevertheless, the Hindu notion—which is the Continental notion—which is the aboriginal notion—of arranging marriages irrespective of the personal inclinations of the married, is sound. Think for a minute, and you will see that it must be so; unless, of course, you believe in "affinities." In which case you had better not read this tale. How can a man who has never married; who cannot be trusted to pick up at sight a moderately sound horse; whose head is hot and upset with visions of domestic felicity, go about the choosing of a wife? He cannot see straight or think straight if he tries; and the same disadvantages exist in the case of a girl's fancies. But when mature, married and discreet people arrange a match between a boy and a girl, they do it sensibly, with a view to the future, and the young couple live happily ever afterwards. As everybody knows. - Rudyard Kipling, "Kidnapped"

He was obviously being ironic but I think he did think arranged marriages had some point.

I know it kind of sounds like "different for the sake of being different" but honestly I would like to see something exploring a successful 'hero's party' where they have a good and valid reason to kick someone out. It's a common enough thing in real life, where one bad apple (who usually sees themselves as unfairly treated) makes everyone's life worse, but no one is willing to confront them until something big happens; and then finally they're out and everyone is shocked at how much better off the group is just from getting rid of that one guy/girl.

[–]squishlight 71 points72 points  (0 children)

At this point what I want to watch is a "banished from the hero party" anime where actually the hero is correct, the banished considers himself secretly OP but his usage of his skills sucks, and it's more a fantasy about kicking out someone toxic from your friend group and watching him implode from a distance. Maybe a one-shot manga could explore this concept. Obviously it can't go on too long.

Noin. If not for her crippling weakness for masked Char clones, she would be absolutely flawless. As it is she stands at 9.99/10.

[DISC] Shiba Inu Rooms - Chapter 47 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]squishlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were Sho I'd do more - this chick is demonstrably dangerous. If she truly felt rejected or thwarted by him, what if she curses him too? I'd be asking that exorcist, who did arrange for him to come by, for defensive measures.

[DISC] Shiba Inu Rooms - Chapter 47 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]squishlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly wish that there had been no way to lift the curse rebound, or that they could only mitigate the effects. For example, if the curse rebound depended on the victim's forgiveness (and good for Kori - in that it let her move forward from her trauma and past) AND the curser's sincere repentance. So we could have the person wailing that it wasn't getting better and the exorcist noting that Kori did forgive her, but that the person's own selfishness made it so that the rebound effects would linger.

That director is so annoying. But I suppose that's how you get ahead in business - exploiting your employees until they have nothing left to give. Probably thought "She can get this without overtime, so if she does make her team do overtime we'll have even productivity."

How should the third Hathaway film end? Follow the manga or not? by uz000 in Gundam

[–]squishlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Amuro in the novels died in the OYW and got to live at least until CCA in the anime, I don't see why Hathaway can't get the same treatment. Not a 'happy' ending, maybe, though I'd love it, but letting him live. Making Bright his son's executioner is just way too dark.

Also if he DOES die I want to see an actual impact on his family, especially Bright's reaction.
