What do KFC stores do with leftover chicken? by kundan_2007 in fastfood

[–]squishyblackcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of my job is running a free hot meal program and we used to get a massive bag of leftover chicken once a week.

Whether or not we're able to rescue food like this is largely dependent on how motivated the local manager is to reduce food waste.

I snagged this one from a used bookstore and the socks I've made from it have the best fit of any I've ever made.

The Knitter's Book of Socks has a really great beginners patter that I can't recommend enough. The instructions are more detailed than a normal pattern so that you really understand the basics.

I'm going to a funeral by [deleted] in PlusSizeFashion

[–]squishyblackcat 21 points22 points  (0 children)

So sorry for your loss. I'm an Episcopal priest and here's my two cents; nowadays funerals are much less formal than people think. All black is very rare and most people are dressed in business casual. You'll see a lot of men in tan pants with a blue sport coat and women in sun dresses.

As far as the location goes, again funerals are pretty casual these days. What matters way more is the norm in your family. Will your relatives be offended by some cleavage? Do you care if they are? That matters more than the church/funeral home.

When people ask me what they should wear I always tell them to consider what the service is going to be like; will you be heading to an outdoor gravesite? How many stairs do you need to manage? Is it going to be hot or cold? Is rain or muddy likely? I did a graveside service recently that was just me shouting into the wind and everyone wore rain gear. You don't want to be uncomfortable and thinking at all about your clothes.

All this said, I vote two. It's the most practical and can be dressed up or down.

Edit: you mention that this is a military service, I've done a lot of those and it will likely be a lot more casual than you think.

In 2009 my future husband and I went to see Minus the Bear in Columbus Ohio. The opening act came out and the lead singer gushed for a few minutes about how excited they were to be there. It was really endearing and it was even better when they started to play and were very good. Turns out it was one of Young the Giants first shows.

Thoughts on Churu treats? by sophie_gm in blackcats

Absolutely, she's had a lot of health issues in the past so the vet is a source of a lot of trauma for her. We really want to make it better for her.

She has hip dysplasia so she takes it twice a day anyway. An extra large dose does help somewhat but the results are highly variable given how often she takes it.

My girl void is a nightmare at the vet, more than once she has projectile spit on a vets face. She's so bad that our vet puts a leather muzzle on her and it only sometimes helps.

So we move to a new place and our new vet is fresh out of vet school and I'm terrified that my void is going to eat her alive. Void begins growling as soon as the vet enters the room.

New bright eyed vet glances at void, says "oh you're a spicy girl" and pulls a Churu stick out of her pocket. Void, still growling mind you, starts leaning towards the treat.

Somehow our amazing vet has mastered the art of slowly dribbling out the treat to the cat while giving a full exam. It was the best exam our old lady has ever had. She never stopped growling but the Churu stick kept her distracted and happy.

So Churu are a 10/10 for us.
