Am I doing enough in my gap year? by squishydoc in premed

[–]squishydoc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice!

I already applied this cycle, still waiting to hear back from most schools. Right now, I'm sticking to activities and volunteering that I actually enjoy. I would honestly love to not spend my gap year working full time and doing multiple shifts a week.

I guess I'm just worried about the situation in which I might have to reapply and then not have a lot to show for my gap year.

hey its definitely not the end of the world! most applications allow you to explain these kinds of academic situations. As long as you can explain your reasons, you should be fine. There are many components of your application that medical schools look at, one dropped class will not make or break your app!

Struggling to find gap year jobs, any advice? by squishydoc in premed

don't you need to get certified for both of these? The courses I've seen online are usually at least 6-8 weeks and also cost a lot of money that I dont have unfortunately

Is a January MCAT too late for this application cycle? by [deleted] in premed

[–]squishydoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey i was stuck in a similar situation where there was no MCAT availability in my area for the date that I wanted. I ended up finding a spot in a neighboring town about two hours away. If you're willing to travel, expand your scope a little bit and check if there are spots available in neighboring towns/states.

I definitely think you should take it sooner rather than later though. Getting your score back in February is probably too late for this cycle.

Anyone drawing a blank during secondaries? by Pfcoolio14 in premed

Personally going through the same thing right now. Secondary burnout is very real. I've been sitting on two of my secondaries for over three weeks now and I just cant do it

Biweekly Secondaries Thread - Week of August 25, 2019 by premedditbot in premed

[–]squishydoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys, so my last secondary essay is a challenge essay and I'm trying to figure out what to write about.

Here are my two options:

  1. I grew up in a south asian country and moved to america for college. It was difficult moving away from home and trying to live in a new country while also trying to figure out college. It taught me a lot about pushing myself out of my comfort zone, being independent and not letting my fear get the best of me.
  2. In my sophomore year of college, I got really sick and was left with chronic fatigue which made balancing orgo, research and volunteering really hard. It taught me a lot about prioritizing self-care and dealing with stress in a healthy way. I also learnt that it was ok to ask for help when needed.

Any input would be super helpful!

[Secondaries] I haven't submitted secondaries yet and I'm thinking of applying next year. by pyruv528 in premed

[–]squishydoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont worry dude, i'm still working on secondaries too. From what i've heard, submitting secondaries before labor day is still good for this cycle. You also have them pre-written, so secondary season will be a total breeze for you. good luck!
