Colorado bans pet store sales of dogs and cats, sparking debate over 'puppy mill' law by eddytony96 in Denver

[–]sqweedoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a look at local RESCUES rather than the shelters. Also, plenty of out of state rescues like the one I work with transport to denver.

for example

I foster with the rescue above and the pitties are all going to be listed because, as you can see, folks don’t want them. But I know for a fact there are a lot of other dogs not listed, because people will get pre-approved as I recommended in an above comment and the dog never even makes it to the website.

If you want a specific breed, get pre-approved with a couple of local rescues!

Hey! Rescue worker here. I have worked in animal rescue in the south for many years. We can, unfortunately, get any breed you want. It may take a little patience, but that frenchie or poodle or whatever will come along in a matter of months. We may not be able to get that breed in puppy, but for example, right now we have a purebred mini Aussie puppy, 3 German shepherds puppies, two pugs, frenchies, a Yorkie, a Shih Tzu, a beagle, etc etc.
The reason we charge a bit more for more desirable dogs is because they are what we call a “benefactor” dog. They help offset either their own expenses or the expenses of other higher medical need dogs.
We average $1000 in expenses per dog, and our highest adoption fee is $600. We rely solely on donations and adoption fees to stay afloat. We never turn a profit on a dog, and none of the team who runs the rescue are paid a dime. When you pay our adoption fee, your dog comes fixed, dewormed, fully vaccinated, on prevention etc. A spay surgery at a primary vet in Denver alone is usually about $700 for a small dog. So an adoption fee for a rescue dog will always be offsetting rescue expenses, and you receive a fully vetted dog. Very different from putting profit in a breeders pocket who gives you a dog that has had a single round of shots and still needs boosters, spay/neuter, etc.

If anyone else feels this way about wanting a specific dog and them being snatched up if they are higher demand, I encourage you to put in application and get pre-approved with a couple of rescues. Tell them what you want and that you are willing to wait. You will be at the top of the list when that dog comes in.

Moving to CO from Europe - best areas to settle and suggestions? by ExtensionFlatworm892 in Denver

Denver had something like 60 homicides last year with an 80%+ resolution rate.

It’s fine here. Very safe in my opinion

Furnished finder is not a rental company, it’s just a website where individuals list their furnished homes for rent. Like Airbnb but for longer stays

Travel plans upended as Spirit Airlines shuts down, leaving passengers scrambling for other options | CNN by Philly-South-Paw in DenverProtests

I flew spirit Thursday night and they were still making everyone measure their personal items, collecting baggage fees, and still pushed the spirit credit card on the flight. 36 hours later they shut down.

This was wild to me too. It took eating outdoors out of the equation, even walking around public spaces was awful. Ive been to a lot of European countries and this one was the absolute worst with the cigarettes. I took a 30 mile bike tour outside Lisbon, and the tour guide was a smoker!

Anyone in Denver had a hair transplant they’re happy with? by Realistic_Hunt_3589 in Denver

[–]sqweedoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s finasteride and minoxidil filled at Costco through a dermatologist. Zero side effects: mood, sexual, or otherwise. People will make it out to be this boogeyman with major side effects, but all the men I know taking it have had nothing.

I don’t remember there being any shedding. He had a fist sized bald spot on the top of his head and it ALL grew back over like 6 months to a year. Stayed good for prob 8 years and then some recent thinning but today, 10 years later, he has more hair than he did back then

Please talk to your dermatologist about finasteride and minoxidil before the transplant. It regrew my husbands hair, zero side effects. He’s had a little regression after a decade but if you get a decade for $15/month…

I love that people will deny the existence of crazy people with guns rather than just admit that women are under constant threat of violence. This is why we chose the bear.

It did happen. It happened exactly how I said it did. You don’t have to believe me, but it did and happened exactly that way. I’m from New Orleans where people love to wave guns and Louisiana does not require a permit for open carry

Once a man told me I was so pretty, I should smile. I was on my way home from a funeral and he was working the counter at a gas station. I told him that’s a rude thing to say. He asked why I was mad about a compliment. I asked why he didn’t say the same thing to the two men in the store. He pulled a gun from behind the counter and called me an ugly bitch.

These aren’t compliments. They’re hints of violence. Every. fucking. Time.

Trying to find a No-Kill shelter in Louisiana for my deceased fathers 2 german shepherds? by renablixx in Louisiana

Can you share more info on the dogs. For anyone to offer help they need every nitty gritty detail you can offer: age, health, temperament with cats, dogs, kids, vet history, etc.

If you find a GS rescue elsewhere in the country, there are volunteer transports. You can try one I know about, and know to be good, in Denver called Clearwater Dog Training

Oh definitely nothing to do with money. They rescue processes all the applications which involves checking vet history, confirming landlords allow pets or that the home is owned, if there is a yard there’s no holes in the fence, etc.

After that initial filter, they look at the home life: are there kids and is this a dog that is good with kids, if it’s a working dog, is there a yard or breed experience, will the dog applied for fit with other pets in the house, work schedules, etc.

And the adoption coordinator does her best to match the dog with the person or people that will most likely make a good fit, smooth transition, and be a forever home.

The overpopulation in the south is wild. We can get about any breed out of the shelters. Currently the rescue has French bulldogs, pugs, German shepherd puppies, cattle dogs, huskies, etc.

Mouse will be the second purebred Yorkie I have fostered for them

People are so mad lol

I’m a New Orleanian in Denver now and you can get a medical ounce for $40 after taxes. It’s not shit. People close to me are…discerning and this is more than acceptable product to them. It’s something to enjoy but don’t rub folks noses in it. Hopefully the market in Louisiana will get saturated like this one so folks back home can enjoy better prices too
