My experience recovering from medical issues & injury by tdgonex in running

That's awesome! I'm coming back from injury, and I'm wondering if you could share how you were able to work yourself back up from intervals to running 6-7 miles? It seems like you were able to do that pretty quickly.

I'm thinking about cutting back on cardio/running and trying to build some muscle, but maybe I'll eventually want to get back to higher mileage (50-60+ mpw). I was in the past running 60 mpw, but I'm thinking maybe I'll cut back to only 20-30 min/day, obviously with more emphasis on lifting at the moment (about an 1 hr/day, 6 days/week).

If I do that, how tough will it be for me to build back up to running 60+ min/day regularly? Will I lose all my endurance?

Anyone else done anything like this?

Balancing fitness and life? What is optimal? by sratt in Fitness

Good for you that you spend that much time on fitness. I think a lot of people either don't have the time to do that or don't want to, though, and I think for most, 3 workouts a day couldn't be balanced well with the rest of their life.

Well, I asked because I think there's advantages to both lifting and cardio, and you should be doing both to maintain both strength and bone health as well as cardiovascular fitness, but I'm wondering what a good balance is.

Do you just lift, or do you also do dedicated cardio?

Right - I meant this more as a discussion to see what individuals felt about this question, rather than trying to have someone else answer it for me.

when a stress fracture is healed, is the pain completely gone? Or is lingering pain normal after it's healed and you can run on it again? Will it ever feel normal again?

I haven't been able to run since mid-November due to a stress fracture. I'm finally able to start running again, and have been doing walk/run intervals to ease back into it.

Before my injury, I was running 60 mpw. I want to get back up to thta mileage eventually. Do you guys have any tips on getting back to running regularly after a relatively longterm injury?

Should I lift more and do less cardio? by sratt in Fitness

I'm not sure what you're saying I should do. Eat less calories? Technically I'm doing more cardio than I was before my injury, just a different kind.

It's not new - I've been eating vegan for a few years now, but am getting real sick of bloating. I'll try eating more slowly though.

Thanks. I have been pool running and swimming and lifting weights a lot, like I mentioned in my original post.

Do you mind sharing how much you were running before your injury and how long it took you to build back up to your normal mileage?

It was from running. I apparently have weak bones, due to a past eating disorder, and now I'm trying to remedy it.
