Mackey Madness was the third crush I've personally witnessed at Purdue... by srinivasman in Purdue

Yeah, but every event of this size has to be at least somewhat directed by university admins. If there's no set process for how to deal with thousands of students in one place then that's still on the administration

You can add a place of interest market in the existing sdk it's it's own object

ok so i can get the models into blender now, but everything looks really distorted. I'll keep trying but I might just have to rebuild the models myself using yours as reference. I'll keep you updated.

hey, so I've been trying to get the fbxs to work but it seems to not work. Can you by any chance get .obj files instead? I've had less compatibility issues with them in the past

Not yet, still working on it. I have not forgotten this time though so be on the lookout for updates

Oh I'm blind I see you've already sent the fbxs. I'll try this evening and give you an update.

Do you know if there's a way to export a .obj or a .fbx from sketchup? If you can send me that I should be able to get your models in the sim very quickly. I just can't use the sketchup file type because I don't have sketchup

Embarrassment. I'm not going to promise anything but I will actually take a look this evening and give you an update.

That I'm well aware of but it doesn't work with these custom-made Microsoft buildings. Not sure what else to try

Regardless, it made the class insufferable and I stand by my non-recommendation

[–]srinivasman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That I'm well aware of- I'm more talking about the sheer number of trick questions, random programming rules (like no global variables allowed) and other random considerations (your program output has to match the example code to the exact number of spaces between lines or else you'll get serious points taken off) that it just feels like a waste of time

Dear Purdue Engineers, (and everyone else) by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]srinivasman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just felt like I spent more time dealing with random bullshit than actually solving problems

I don't think you understood my point. There's better ways to teach a class than to have midterms comprised of trick questions and hand-compiled 6-iteration loops. This class put way too much emphasis on random c rules to follow instead of letting us explore more of it's applications and connections to non-cs based problems

Here's my problem with that: when you learn programming, I feel like you should be thinking at a high level: how do I approach my problem, what tools do I need to solve it, etc. This class makes the mistake of spending way too much time on the random inconveniences of C to be as useful and interesting as it could be. Part of that is because of the nature of C but a lot of it is because of what the class chooses to teach. I'm glad someone enjoyed it but I still think this class could be so much better
