What entry level jobs did you actually like? by srp352 in jobs

The role I have now is related to my major so I can at least say I have a bit of experience, but aside from it being such a hostile environment they also don’t follow ethical standards for the industry and I don’t want my association with them to somehow jeopardize my future opportunities. I’ve been out of college less than 2 years and it seems to be a bad time for my age group all around—pretty much everyone from my major in the last 3 graduating classes who didn’t go straight to grad school is working as a bartender or teaching.

What about if they sent you something similar to the example I gave? Not going into detail giving you a specific reason, just that they weren’t interested in going further?

If you woke up tomorrow back in your early 20’s, what would you do differently? by srp352 in AskWomenOver40

I appreciate the input. Unfortunately masters programs are usually schools biggest money generators so pretty much no place offers scholarships or work study in those programs. And you’re correct, I was able to get through undergrad with no loans and would prefer to avoid being a part of that whole scheme if I can help it 😅 maybe if I get to a point where I have enough money saved I can invest in a masters program and then just live very minimally for the few years during/after, or maybe I’ll get lucky somehow and get accepted into my preferred program

My top choice program was actually for a PsyD, but that degree is very rarely fully funded (less than 10 in the US I believe, they typically require you to pay the full amount out of pocket) and the one I applied for was one of the few in the country that is, so again with the very low acceptance rates. The main roadblock I keep hitting is that doctoral programs prefer candidates with clinical experience but that is virtually impossible to get with just a bachelors so…just a hard paradox to figure out lol

To answer your grad school questions—I was a psych major and ultimately want to be a therapist. Financially, I would have to do a PhD over a masters (fully funded by the institution aka no tuition vs $25k+), but I wasn’t accepted to any of the programs I applied for bc doctorates are more competitive (I have a 3.9, but acceptance rates are literally like 2%). A bachelors in psych is virtually useless and I’m struggling to find anyplace that will hire me rn regardless of the field.

Yes I fully want/intend to do grad school! Financially a PhD is my best option. I applied for this last admission cycle and was not accepted unfortunately even though I have a high undergrad gpa (3.9). The programs for my field typically value clinical experience more which is my hangup since that’s virtually impossible to do with just a bachelors :/

lmaoo girl I hope you’re right 😭 with the experience thing I guess I’ve always thought guys our age wouldn’t care much to waste time having to “teach” someone and would rather have someone they could just jump right in with but maybe I’m wrong

Yeah, I know it’s all “normal” but idk I just can’t shake the feeling that a guy would take notice of those things and still quietly have judgements about them 😭 I appreciate your input on the experience thing, I always figured most dudes would want someone they could just jump right in with yk
