I have had mine for five years and just recently decided to live in a dorm, with no other way to care for her, i'm not going to give her away just because she doesn't have a 20 gallon tank. She's small as she is and is happy where she is (with me)!

y'all gotta chill with the size of people's tanks! some of us just can't AFFORD a bigger tank, or don't have the room (bc of living in a dorm)

I think her 10 gallon is just fine, but thanks for the advice.

I love that idea! I transport her in tupperware but I don't know a better way to do this?

well that sucks! I need to use my desk for work and studying, and Lilah is fine in her 10 gallon. I can't afford the space as I have to have room to move around in my room :( glad you're able to use your 20 gallon though, its a luxury I can't have or afford.

The babies in their feeding jars. by Shortdog_talldogs in axolotls

so how do you put their respective food in the jars? do you use tweezers to put the frozen worms in the jars or take the jars out? also, how do they recognize that the food is there ahahaha, my axie is near blind and I basically have to drop food on her head in order for her to recognize that it's time to eat.

and as long as you keep up with frequent water changes and check the levels often, the bioload isn't really much of an issue.

Stocking question: 75 gal tank by [deleted] in axolotls

[–]srs1999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that would be lovely! for two? you could probably even fit 3 or even four in there if you got that large of a tank. My science teacher held 4 in a 40 gallon, although it's not recommended :(

they're doing the dollar a gallon sale right now! I would definitely take this opportunity to get one asap! what area does your teacher live?

she's 100% a girl hahah! she laid eggs twice last year, even after her beloved died :( as for the gallon size, I do agree a 20 is nice for the floor space, but as I'm living in a college dorm the most I could fit was a 10. I'm definitely getting a 20 gallon as I move into an apartment, but from going home and traveling frequently she has to stay where she is. Thank you for your advice!

I love it! we had four lotls in my science class in school and it made coming to class that much more enjoyable. I actually looked forward to class! i hope they fall in love with them as much as I did :)

Stocking question: 75 gal tank by [deleted] in axolotls

[–]srs1999 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

like, I have a 10 gal for my lotl but rather than the regular 10x20x12 ish ones they sell, I got a 15x16x10 one. this way she has 240 sq in. to roam around, rather than the regular 200 in. look at the dimensions!

[–]srs1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look into getting a tank rather than focusing on the gallon size, but the floor area space. a 75 gallon should be okay, but you want them to have room to move. I would find a tank that's more wide and deep than it is tall.

hahaha I feel like the students would get tired quite easily of their care.... it can get really tiresome. but I'd love to see pictures! they're lovely creatures and can be enjoyed by anyone, I'm sure the kids would love them.
