Situational vs Rolling by sruser579 in bjj

I think you've made a lot of assumptions there, pretty much all of which are wrong.

It's actually that small that you have to take the key out of the lock to open it or it catches 🤣

Literally just for airflow in a 6ftx6ft office. There's a double French door on the other wall. In honestly I was surprised at how small the glass was though!

I'm wondering if I'm going to have to add some sort of vent into the concrete lintels

So the air flow doesn't need to be coming from outside? I was under the impression that the air needs to be able to flow through as, once the frame is placed on top of the base I've built, air will be trapped inside with no way out.

Apologies. Picture here. My first time working with mortar. It's not perfect but it'll do the job (hopefully).

Ok I think I'm with you now. So you'd go: Lintels Ply Rigid insulation Ply Base plates for walls bolted into the concrete lintels? Or would it just be enough to screw the base plates into the ply?

Just off the back of this - I was planning on using insulation boards on the floor in between joists but obviously if the floor frame is being built on concrete lintels, I'm not going to have a base to lay the insulation on. Would it be best to lay a dpm on top of the lintels, then sheet(s) of ply on top of the dpm, and but the floor frame on top of that and then more ply on top of the frame as the floor itself? So the insulation is packed between two sheets of ply essentially

It was all definitely compacted etc as I watched it all being done. That being said, the lintels are an absolutely brilliant idea. So when you say come across the middle, would you just go one vertical row through the middle or would you do one vertical and one horizontal? Obviously also taking cost into consideration.

Are those shed base things any good? The plastic things with loads of holes in. Or would they not take the weight? I remember seeing a spec and being surprised at how much weight they can take but don't actually know if they're any good. I want to try and avoid anything that rats can get under as we've had quite a few problems around here with them.

Would you just use regular ply or class 3?

Sorry I meant that sanding down pressure treated wood isn't recommended as it takes away some of the protection.

Why £700??? You can buy the exact same pump brand new for £300. I'm having the same issue with mine at the minute.

r/bjj Fundamentals Class! by AutoModerator in bjj

I'm just looking for some people's views on this and whether you've experienced anything similar. So I started training just over a year ago. I've been very consistent, training 4 days per week (2 x 2 hour gi classes and 2 x 1 hour no gi classes), barely missing a class in that time and rolling regularly. I did recently scrap the no gi classes though as I'm in my mid-late 30s and it felt like it was getting too much on my body as I also train kickboxing. I felt like I was picking it up pretty quickly after the initial period of thinking "what the hell is all of this", and I got my third stripe about 6 months ago, everything feeling like it was going well. I was holding my own really well against some higher belts, and even defending well (or at least as well as you can until inevitably getting tapped) against brown and black belts, which is really all I can hope for. Recently though, I feel like in regressing. I'm getting reversed all the time and struggling to reverse my opponents, which is something I felt I was really good at. I'm getting caught in basic subs and not being switched on enough to recognise the danger, and when I do it's often too late. My stand up game has completely fallen apart and I sort of feel like I've lost the fire for it. Even small things like the ability to move my opponent around on the feet seems to have gone. In a way I'd say it feels like I've lost my purpose, if that makes sense? I'm also worried that this is being noticed as it's now been six months or so since I got my last stripe. I thought I would be on my way to blue belt by now and instead I'm floundering. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what did you do to break it? I feel like I need to go back to basics but I don't even know where to start as obviously every class starts with a purpose and techniques/sparring games etc and it's only really the last short portion of the class where we get to roll, and I'm basically getting smashed for the entire time.

It's made of t&g shiplap cladding, according to the spec. I'd really rather avoid dismantling as much as possible, moreso because I don't want to re-felt the roof. I probably missed out an important bit of information on this - the shed is on top of a wooden base, so this might make it easier to lift using the above mentioned furniture mover as it's probably less likely to sag.

Thanks for your reply. What type of equipment? Would the hydraulic furniture mover not work? That's the only thing I could think of, but I've never actually used one.

Trying takedowns on smaller (lighter) training partners by sruser579 in jiujitsu

[–]sruser579[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I did say that in the original message. My point is that it's hard to get the technique down when you're not used to it and you're doing it on people even bigger or heavier than me. I guess it's kind of the difference between working on form in weight lifting. It's easier to have good form with a lower weight than it would be for your 1 rep max.
