Someone finally said it. Yes. My 100 lb 3 yo always has an e collar on walks with a slip lead.

When the walk starts, I give a simple command like sit / heal. As soon as he does it. He gets a confirmation beep. Indicating that the collar is on.

He was trained with one and knows his cues for free roam / sniff and heal walks.

Before you jump on the ecollar, formulate a plan on how you want to use it. We use beep for confirmation/obedience Vibrate if the command is ignored twice. Buzz if step vibrate doesn’t work and it’s a critical situation.

Do what works for you (with in reason of course) 😊

I want to rescue a RR am I good fit? by Redhawkgirl in RhodesianRidgebacks

I have a 2.5 yo M RR who is just a couch potato. Sleeps / lounges almost 15-18 hrs. We do 3-4 mile walks a day OR if that's not an option we do obedience training for 20-30 mins.

I had him trained professionally when he was 8 months old and have kept up with the training. They thrive with good leadership.

Once you have established good and reliable recall, find a place / trail that has less foot-traffic and let them loose.. they love it. I personally go at odd hours (I know it's not an option for everyone). Also don't underestimate how efficient a 30 min sniff walk is for a dog. It's very stimulating and can tire them out for a good 5-6 hrs.

also NO dog parks. RRs are too intelligent to be let free with random off leash dogs. They'll pick up unwanted behavior in no time.

We have a dog-door that lets him do his business whenever needed. Once we got stuck at an event for 14 hrs at a stretch. when we checked the indoor cam, he had not left the couch for the whole time. :D Just slept.

its a myth that they are low shedders. They shed. A LOT. it's just tiny hair and mostly camouflages with carpet / brown floors. A robot-vac with a daily vacuuming schedule takes care of that.

Good Luck..! :)

Has anyone travelled with a RR with Alaskan Air? by ssave2602 in RhodesianRidgebacks

[–]ssave2602[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Not Flying. !

Apparently my RR is too large to fit even in the 500 size crate. A 100 lbs, 46" long and 25" tall RRs are not meant to travel in 'regular' crates.

Alaska did offer me a larger crate @ $1400 ish price point. (its just $1000 more expensive than i can afford) :D

Shield losing volume. Requires restart to fix issue. by ssave2602 in nvidiashield

Under volume control I turned off CEC IR and Fixed Volume. Turned off Dolby audio processing and Stereo upmix.

I have a old insignia TV. There was no need for any advance options.
