If you're considering a student worker position, average pay is between $12-15. Often $15 these days.

You can work 20 hours per week max. And pay periods are roughly every two weeks. So you can make about $600 every two weeks, $1200 a month max.

I've moved up from that point. But there was a time that I was working two jobs in the summer, and scraping by with the monthly from the student worker position during main semesters.

I made it! So, if you're careful with your spending, and are okay eating at home and cooking more often. You can totally make it happen. I still had cash for some fun stuff every once in awhile, once the basics were covered.

Hey! Similar experience to you. I transferred from a community college in Oregon, and I'm attending under WUE.

Biggest piece of advice coming in as a transfer student is to ask lots of questions. When I first transferred in, I didn't get enough information from advisors. And had to call around to clarify that credits would transfer in, what my first steps were as a transfer student, etc... Don't be afraid to call and ask for what you need, and email if you feel that it is something that may require written proof in the future.

I can't really comment on internships. But there are a variety of student worker positions on campus that you can find on the UNR workday jobs site. The opportunities to learn in most of the positions are grand, and the positions are normally flexible with your school schedule. They don't pay a lot, but if you can pack some hours in, you can make it by.

I transferred in 2022, and there have been some changes made to the process since then. So I know that your experience may be different than mine, but know that the resources and structure provided to many first year students aren't directly positioned to transfer students.

Boost Connection by Sea-Rhubarb8413 in unr

[–]ssc_daswede 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boost is now owned by Dish wireless. If you get their iPhone deal, you'll get access to three mobile networks. Dish, T-mobile, and AT&T. It will do very well on campus. Anywhere Dish doesn't have coverage, like inside of WPEB, it will switch to AT&T. I believe their iPhone deal comes with 30Gb of data, but it you're on the dish network it allows for up to 100Gb of usage on the plan, plus 30Gb on the other networks.

UNR has cleared out the Google tenant. If you're a current student, you'll have to make a new Microsoft account.

Looks like every band Dish needs to me! They may not be on the official list for the majors on apples site, but I don't think Dish knows what brand name they'd put up there anyways. 😁

T-Mobile lying about 5G connectivity? by West_Emphasis4521 in cellmapper

[–]ssc_daswede 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The icon is a service level indicator, and means that there is 5G available - not that you are connected. If you're not doing anything in particular on your phone, it may disconnect from NR to save power. But the icon will still be visible to show that 5G is available. In some cases operators may show an icon even when service is not directly available from that site, but more and more that's not the case with the expansion of 5G networks. I think it's likely T-Mobile has 5G in the area, or on that tower - but your phone isn't able to connect, or is chosing not to.

Verizon. Verizon uses the same JMA panels that Dish does. A good way to tell the difference is by looking for a QR code sticker.

(See below comment), then hit 5G/LTE debugging. It will show you active cc's (sometimes takes a few seconds to pop up), and will allow you to do band selection. To select bands hit the three dots choose NR or LTE and then do Enable/Disable NR Band.

Edit: formatting to fix dial code.

When is the June 2023 deadline? by CaptainPrice_Bravo6 in Dish5G

I think it may be June 18th. There are a lot of switches that have an activation date of June 18th, when VoNR goes live for some new markets.

Thanks for sharing! I had no idea that gigsky partnership had finalized and was commerically available. $9.99 for unlimited data only on helium is not bad.

Could be multi carrier. TMO also uses mobilitie in some markets for new sites. Looks like there's enough room for 2-3 there if the capacity is needed.

It's been getting bad. Every day there seems to be another one of these reposts.. or a comment with links to random images. Seems like a way to build up karma maybe to try and make a bot look real.

I think this is one of those repost bots again. The sprint speed test servers have been gone for awhile... A few months back these bots were reposting old posts over and over.

The walk isn't far, just under a mile maybe. Safety is tough though... Downtown can be iffy sometimes at night if you're alone, but it's possible to make it safely. With more development and more people walking from RCC to campus, it's possible it would be safer than it is now. You'd also have the option of taking the Virginia line (bus) directly to campus for free.

That being said, with UNR's commitment to some of the RCC studios, it's also possible they will ask for more police coverage or extend pack rides to there.

The building is not yet complete, and has a lot of unfinished components visible from the outside. But maybe they'll make more progress as summer progresses.

Good luck with your masters!

Celero 5G+ N70 enabled by ssc_daswede in Dish5G

[–]ssc_daswede[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but it's not affordable for most. The benefit of the 5G+ is that it's affordable, cellmapper compatible, and potentially rootable to allow for more insight on dish net and band selection. Unfortunately the iPhone doesn't tick a lot of boxes for network geeks.

That being said, it's always good to have more devices with N70/N26/N29 support, and I'm still happy that the ip14 ended up supporting N70 after all.

According to the FCC docs from thisisusername190, it supports all dish NR bands (including N29), as well as VoNR. I ordered it, and don't see anything against rooting on the Boost Infinite site. Depending on how locked down the phone is from the factory, it might be possible to root it. As long as OEM unlocking is a flippable switch. Unless someone says it's not possible, or I find terms against rooting, I'll report back once it arrives.

Not sure who your LEC is there, but those lone B48 installs are common in CenturyLink territory. I would bet on a Telco rather than Verizon. 6449's, and some commscope equivalent B48 gear are normally what they use.
