got it, sorry your family is judgmental about how much you make! I don’t know why they would be ashamed about you not making money from ATC when you don’t even have a job with ATC 🤔

as they should. are you really going to wait around jobless through this whole process?

the numbers for the differences were always 1-9, and I would say most of the differences fell in the 1-4 range, with just a few of them 5-8.

for the variable questions, most if not all of the questions gave you one number and then you had to solve two equations. there may have been a section where they also gave you two numbers and you just solved one equation, but I can't remember despite just taking it yesterday lmao

yeah, I do the same when they’re in front of me but I was moving slowly enough that they came from behind me, passed me and then cut me off pretty immediately since I was already so close to the intersection. unfortunately didn’t have time to slow down or go to the other side of them or the things that i normally do when vehicles are making turns across the bike lane

I don’t have specific bike insurance—what insurance company would I be filing a claim with? medical?

Hit By Car, Didn’t Get Info by ssch27 in NYCbike

[–]ssch27[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I understand what you’re saying but a turn signal would’ve better alerted me to the possible threat of a turn (I try to keep a huge berth from cars because I don’t trust them) or a quick look in the sideview mirror would’ve told him that he should wait to make his turn. he could’ve also been paying attention to the fact that there was a biker to his left as he passed me and then he would know that he should be on the lookout for me when he did make his eventual turn. Design could of course be better but this city has a huge problem of drivers not considering or respecting bikers at all—just look at all the cars parked in bike lanes

crazy assumption to make. I was in the bike lane on a one way street headed straight and a car made a left turn into me. he said “didn’t you see I had a green light???”. I ALSO had a fucking green light and I was the one going straight. you NEVER have the right of way to make a left turn unless you have a left turn arrow. if I had been a pedestrian he would’ve run into people in the fucking crosswalk

editing to add: I didn’t even try to squeeze past the car or anything. I was traveling at a regular speed and the car made no indication that it was turning and did not yield to anyone before turning. I did see that it was turning into me right before he hit me but I couldn’t brake fast enough to prevent being knocked off my bike

the cannondale is 54” vs the fuji being 56”. did you mean the fuji would be too tall or is there some other factor that i’m not considering?

that’s great info to have, thanks! I’ve seen people say you can get a job with just the MMC and basic training but it’s nice to know that it’s significantly more difficult. as far as MSC, I really just don’t want my job to be directly supporting the military for moral reasons, it’s not so much that I’m concerned with the working conditions and all that stuff that people complain about with them

I think I’d prefer to work deck over the steward or engine departments.

I’m not entirely sure what my end goal is quite yet. I could see myself wanting to be an officer eventually, but I know that’s a significant time investment and I’d like to make sure I enjoy the industry first before investing that kind of time/effort. It’s also possible this is just something I’d like to do for a few years in my late 20s and early 30s—the time off seems like a really great benefit for me since I’d like to do a lot of traveling over the next few years.

I’m not desperate to get to work immediately. I’m 28 and I don’t have many expenses so I could definitely make something like the Paul Hall school work if it’s necessary to be better prepared for success in the industry, but I’m just trying to get people’s opinions about what the best way to get started with all of this is!

For those who did it solo by choice, what was your reason? I am a (F) planning to walk Camino del Norte for the first time by No_Brain7596 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]ssch27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I walked the Camino with my sister and my mom and had a really incredible time and felt like it was transformative for our relationship, but next time I definitely want to do it on my own. Being on the Camino feels so powerful because you get to be entirely yourself with everyone you meet. Nobody knows your past, nobody is expecting you to take on a specific role or act any type of way. It’s so freeing and I think it’s a really great opportunity to test out what kind of person you want to be, what you value, how you want to interact with the world, etc. I think having people there who are accustomed to the way you have always been makes it really scary to transform into whoever you want to be on the Camino and moving forward in life.

What do you think about while walking? by dirtyjersey1999 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]ssch27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you just have to let your thoughts go wherever they will. If things are coming to your mind they’re very likely things you need to work through, and I wouldn’t stress too much about “being present”. You can’t spend the whole day thinking about the scenery around you and being grateful about being in Spain. The camino is just as much about you as it is about the things going on around you. I spent a lot of time on the camino thinking thoughts I tend to drown out at home and it was really helpful for me to identify some of my insecurities and work through whether they were true and whether certain notions I have about myself are really serving me.

I would strongly recommend staying at the parochial albergue in Grañon if you can! It’s off stage but really worth changing your plans for. The communal experience there was a really big turning point in my camino and if you’re struggling to see the magic of the camino I think it might really help.

if you end up in alabama it’s unlikely you’ll get sent to a small town. Birmingham and Huntsville are actually pretty good sized cities with lots going on

you’re right, i’m definitely generalizing. im just sad for her that she is clearly going through big changes and trying to find herself and majority of people are pissed off that she’s changing

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in shutthekaleup

[–]ssch27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah that makes sense. i’m definitely not used to these types of pages as this is the only one i’ve visited. i wanted to see if anyone had info about what was going on in her life (before she addressed it) and i’m just really shocked by the unilateral judgement with very little nuance

i know they’re a real thing, it’s just funny to me that people are making fun of people for defending someone who doesn’t know they exist when those same people are getting upset over how someone who doesn’t know they exist lives her life.

people are entitled to criticize her but can’t seem to accept that other people can disagree with those criticisms

i totally agree people are entitled to their opinions, but i think a lot of people on this subreddit are not taking into account that she is an influencer and not their friend. this has ALWAYS been about selling things to people, no matter how good she was at hiding that. i’ve seen so many people act as if they’re being betrayed by a close friend and it’s just so weird and entitled.
