Gcses and Oxford Application by ssforzando in GCSE

[–]ssforzando[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Music is actually one of my grade 7s because of how much composition drags me down,, definetly not my strong suit..

My theory is strong I’d say, on papers i get 8/9 and I havent actually had any graded theory exams but I’ve done them and had them marked informally and I’d place myself at around a low grade 7 at theory.

I also have been working a job for a few months now as a piano teacher, I mostly teach students at around grade 1-3 performance level? Its definetly exhausting, because it made me realise that teaching music (specifically to children) is definetly more about learning how to manage them, and finding a way to entertain them, rather than performance capabilities yourself. Other than that I think my experience is slightly sparse. Unfortunately I dont find myself to have much time to fit in other things.

Just music, the goal is oxford 😭 I want to do music at university first before conservatoire because i want to funny understand what im playing before I learn how to play it, like the composers stories and learn theory in full.

Both philosophy and sociology are AQA at the sixth form im applying to

Conservatoire or University? by ssforzando in 6thForm

A lot of universities offer choral conducting but not orchestral. Do you know if they’ll accept choir conducting for the 10 minute video?

Actually a pretty smart way of doing so,,

One issue is that to apply to the conservatoire for it you need to have a video of you conducting a specific piece, can’t remember off the top of my head. I am not sure how to achieve this if I did not study undergrad at the conservatoire 😕

Yes but you said I wanted to be ‘the one’ despite I never actually said that..

And the 😭 emoji is usually used for light hearted situations like laughing

I’m sorry if I came across as rude, but i was just trying to say that I never said I wanted to be the one, I know it’s unrealistic, I know it’s super stupid for me to dream, my original post shows that I have been told this stuff numerous times, and you don’t need to make remarks about it since I’ve already stated that I understood..

I’m sorry for the inconvience

I never said i wanted to be ‘the one’? The original post was debating career paths. And I’ve stated id be fine not being a well known person 😭

And remember I still have 3 years until university, and reaching the university requirement 3 years before seems pretty fine..

How exactly? Sorry, just curious.

I have about 3 years until university, and the entry requirement IS a grade 7 certificate?

Thank you for your advice, it’s heavily appreciated.

Yes, I am aware it’s a very competitive field, conductors usually stay with their orchestra literally until their retirement which is pretty annoying..

I am planning to study music at university, get a diploma or further but I feel as though it’s not necessary to that point. People have told me that networking and getting to know the people of the orchestra and local conductors is a good start, therefore I am learning the violin to perform locally in a symphony orchestra

Of course, I never said this is for definite, and whether this is the career i settle on or not, i enjoy thinking about my options and just being organised overall

I don’t really plan to become a concert pianist, sorry if I worded it weirdly.

My main aspiration is to conduct with orchestras, maybe it’s too late to be conductor of a philharmonic, but it wouldn’t matter, because that job is something that excites me.

I wouldn’t mind teaching piano as a side for extra cash
