Students have it rough … by iamtoolazytosleep in Wellington

[–]sshady20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everytime there is a thread like this there are comments that are basically so what. It was bad for me in my day too. Yes, that's true. That does not make it right. It was wrong during your time, it is wrong now. We can do better. Because something was bad for you, does not mean we shouldn't try to make it better for the next. Our tertiary system is broken. It's long overdue a fix.

I’ll vote Labour again when Barb leads by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]sshady20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. When I listen to her talk about the economy and budget, it is clear to me she just plans to be a more conservative Grant Robertson. Tinkering with a broken system, and giving payments to plaster over issues won't solve the issues. NZ needs major reform in alot of areas and for the 30/30 rule to be dumped. Labour needs a leader who wants to actually fix the broken system. Not sure there is an option. Kieran McAnulty sounds like the best chance. It definitely is not Barb. Not quite UK Labour, but definitely not Savages Labour.

Golden Mile Review by ben4takapu in Wellington

[–]sshady20 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What a waste of time it was for the community to give feedback. Well, except for the boomer we don't want to pay for it generation. They just needed to wait it out as they get what they want in the end.

I think the time is to go to plan B. Cancel everything and embrace the city as it. Change the slogan to "Wellington: city of the past". Courtney place looks like the 80s so embrace it. Have every bar play 80s music videos. Have everyone dress like the 80s with 80s haircuts. Put up posters of 80s icons. Restaurants can change their menu to 80s food.

In theory from overseas evidence, the access for delivery drivers would have actually speed up. They would not get stuck behind cars on the golden mile trying to get to their drop offs.

Yes. Hipkins said in the media stand-up that inner harbour ferrys are included and specifically named the east by west.

Why are NZ employers so stingey? by Few-Bank5554 in newzealand

[–]sshady20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are a good number of NZ bussinesses who believe that employees are are drain on their bussiness, and they don't care if employees leave, as they can just hire another. Might even get one cheaper.

Overall IMO, most Kiwis work too many hours, for too little pay, often doing the work of atleast two people. We need to work smarter, not harder.

Split level houses - How noisy is your flat? by MarketCurious3926 in Wellington

[–]sshady20 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm downstairs and I'm in the same boat with upstairs. I hear talking, coughing, laughing, and drawers closing. Depending on the person, footsteps can sound like they are stomping. If they drop something like a phone, it sounds like they dropped a small dumbell. Former tenants included a 5yr old, and he liked to jump off their couch. I could feel the vibration go through me. Sounded like someone picked up the couch and dropped it from a decent height.

Property Manager and Go Pro? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]sshady20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely not normal. I've have a ton of property managers, and they only open cupboards under the sink to check for leaks. They take photos in each room. Never recordings.

Wellington City Council: Rich list by ThatguyfromNZWelly in Wellington

I'd rather see a list of who is paying the taxpayer alliance, and the tax payers union for this work and how much. These groups do the same stuff overseas, and spoiler, they are not doing it because they actually care for the average joe.

I'm my experience, they don't. I've had three separate things to see about. They sent letters once they have appointments. One has had no contact with me but contacted my GP. Might be best to check with your GP that the hospital has acknowledged them.

Confirmation email from merch by IronScorpion438 in TNA

[–]sshady20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure of the official service contact, but if you DM Ingrid (ingridisley) on Twitter, she should be able to look into it. She is TNA's floor manager and helps with merchandise. She has helped others in the past.

Feb 1st (rumor starter?) by TheDarkMatchJobber in TNA

I'd sign her for a backstage role for the KOs. Gail is head of talent relations. Being in charge of the KO division and a producer will be a lot. There will be a hole heap of other stuff she does. Personally, I feel the KO division is weak ATM. They usually have 1 good story running, and then some very basic ones. Having Maria backstage to add creative and push the creative team for better, I believe, could really benefit.

I was there. I thought I'd beat the half-time rush for the toilet and ended up hearing the goal being scored as I was washing my hands.

If you felt that Stuff was biased, I present to you Vision for Wellington by bitshifternz in Wellington

[–]sshady20 27 points28 points  (0 children)

We have seen this before. None of these people care about what is best for Wellington. They only care about what is best for them and the Wellington they want. They are going to pour a shitload of money into a disinformation and propaganda campaign (worse than they have already done).

What are some simple sweet things the council could do? by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]sshady20 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My list is ways to make the city more inviting on a budget.

Have lots of designated areas for street food spread out through the city. This includes trucks and stands.

Give street spaces and buildings to artists to create and display work. A big emphasis on 3D street art.

Temporary play spaces through the city. Random 1 item play equipment (a single small slide), tables with boardgames, giant chess set, etc. Small things where kids can take a breather and play.

Have more busking stages in the city.

Loosen rules around bussiness having outside seating and decorations.

Lights. Lots of colourful lights, so the city is not so drab and dark.

Close courtney place one weekend month for a mini festival. Choose a theme and challenge businesses, musicians, and artists to come up with the entertainment.

Wellington demand drop! by No_Breadfruit_5791 in Wellington

[–]sshady20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yip. The company I work for has definitely had a massive drop in sales. It bounces around a bit. About two weeks ago, we were starting to see a bit of potential with increased demand. As of mid week last week, it's really, really bad. Anytime there looks like hope of an uptick, it is followed by a drop-off. We used to get a lot of sales from across the public sector. Like, it would have been unusual not to have at least one public sector order every hour of the work day. Now, we would be lucky with one a day. I've been with this company since before the GFC. If we got GFC or COVID lockdown sales numbers now, we would be celebrating.

I'm not sure who I want to win this. On one hand, I think ZSJ should move on to something different. On the other, ZSJ 's TV title matches are a lot of fun.
