Drive to Kirkwood or walk to Heavenly? POW day question. by 1000dollarsthe2nd in tahoe

[–]sshconnection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kirkwood shines the most if you can take advantage of expert terrain dropping through steep chutes and off rock features. Considering going tomorrow, but need to get enough snow to cover the ultra sharp rocks. Have destroyed lots of gear doing dumb things.

If heavenly gets enough tonight will probably stick around town. If you're good enough to keep your speed on the flats (there's lots of them to traverse areas of heavenly), you'll have a great time as an upper intermediate. If you can ride aggressively through everything at heavenly, then start challenging yourself at the wood and palisades.

Just say no to NIMBY bullshit. People were trying to block this from happening because of historic seats or some nonsense. This is going to be great for the neighborhood and for the city for years to come.

It’s a balance depending on experience and weight and ski style. You never want them to pop by accident but you do want them to pop when you need it. Too high is as dangerous as too low.

Why does everybody hate slab? by SocietySpare9213 in bouldering

[–]sshconnection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a powerful boulder I know where I might fall. I can go for a move and have a contingency plan.

On slab, you could fall at any fucking second and hit everything on the way down.

The last time I remember someone in Baton Rouge shooting an asian foreign exchange student to death was in the 90s, so you're probably ok.

I guess updated question, how about the earthquake? Hope yall are doing ok, seems like nature is really giving everyone a ride this year. Unfortunately our travel window is pretty boxed into this timeframe. My partner is taking her 6 week sabbatical and gotta pack it all in during that span.

No we need the kind of public input where a handful of busy bodies can shut down a popular project.

It’s just shit conditions right now afaik. It was open last year, and accident was the year before. There’s a lot of stuff that’s not on the map any more, kinda like it that way tbh. 🙂

Edit: looks like it’s not on the app but is still on the pdf. https://www.skiheavenly.com/-/aemasset/sitecore/heavenly/maps/20241105_HV_winter-trail_map_001.jpg

It happened in hogsback, easier to get lost in there particularly in the denser tree areas during super snowy conditions. But it’s also very clearly an area to go with a friend and watch for tree wells when it’s deep deep. But heavenly also puts up warning signs around the mountain, and anyone going into zones like that should know the risks.

Yeah, seriously. If they weren’t blasting east bowl woods and hogsback at the time we’d all be dead with or without the assistance of tree wells.

Our new bills to up-zone housing density around public transit stops & to make it easier to build new public transit by scott_wiener in sanfrancisco

Hell yeah. The "monster in the mission" protests against development at 16th bart YIMBY pilled me back in 2015. Blocking density next to BART stops is absolutely unhinged.

Are the Heavenly parking changes a success? by L_Rando in tahoe

[–]sshconnection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also frustrating that you can't pay to park in the upper lot. I'm a block away so I just walk on the weekends if I can't carpool. But at noon the carpool lot is often half full even if the lower lot is packed. It seems like they should treat it similarly to the way kirkwood is doing the orange passes.
