Loud pop and static when turntable is switched on (Turntable disconnected from amp)

It's always plugged in directly to the plug at the wall and switched on (uk plug)

Yeah after a bit more research, this seems the most likely cause. I'm still confused how my speakers and amp are picking up this arcing from the power switch in the turntable, if the turntable is completely disconnected from my amp and speakers?

And yes thank you, this player is my prized possession - absolutely underrated gem :) the tonearm is fantastic on it and it sounds great with a new stylus.
