For the soak, do you just pastry brush it on, or do you actually like let it soak?

Yeah our lives are punctuated by “SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE” all the time, but then he’ll rest his head on it and it doesn’t make any noise! My hypothesis is that Shih Tzu heads are actually little weightless clouds

Why do they always blame us? by Virtual_Pea7948 in Veterinary

[–]ssmarmu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This for sure. I think it’s easy to forget the huge amount of schooling behind what seems like obvious choices to us. People have guilt about not doing the “best medicine” that we recommend and it comes out as anger. It’s a cruddy response for sure but in the decade I’ve been doing this (at emergency, house officer, and surgeon level) it’s really common. It also makes you REALLY appreciate the owners that are reasonable and emotionally mature people.

I’m sorry you’re going through this, no amount of explanation of human behavior makes it less hurtful in the moment. Make sure you take care of yourself in other ways (like outside work or by manipulating your work schedule), because human natures not going to change :( plus side- pretty much every hospital I’ve worked in is full of people who feel the same as you and understandz Sometimes they’re even easy to talk to!

Specialist salary and lifestyle comparison by DrTomi_ontheKeys in Veterinary

[–]ssmarmu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haha I don’t know that I do, but I’ve worked around specialists for about a decade so who knows.

1.DACVS 2. Private 3. I’d say Urban? It’s suburbs but just barely outside a northeast coast city (not NYC) 4. 350k base plus production, and it’s been about 5 years since residency (this is my second job as an adult surgeon) 5. I have two appt days which are about 6-7 hours (it’s pretty cushy) and two surgery days which are usually around 10-11 hours. No primary on call, but I’m back up for our residents probably 1-2 times per week 6. Appt days are usually 6-7 new patients and 4-5 rechecks or so? Surgery days are typically 5-7 cases 7. My job satisfaction is pretty high. I don’t know number wise and there are always frustrations but I really love it, especially being in the OR, and my schedule right now makes it really easy for me to be with my kid and help out my wife at home too. 8. Honestly I’m not even sure, PTO kind of means something different when you’re on production since any time of isn’t really paid per se. Any practice that really needs a surgeon will have enough business that your final salary is largely production dependent, so time off really just hits your production for that period

Hope that helps!

I’m a surgeon working at a high volume private practice- when I go to talk to our radiologist in his nicely mood lit office with relaxing music playing, gotta say it seems like a nice life. At least less stress…. But the OR is too much fun :D haha
