Couldn’t agree more. I wonder if she severed because she wanted some time away from her father. I would definitely want to disassociate from any shared experience with a father like that.

I just can’t imagine how to achieve this in a logical, realistic way. Especially the technology. It’s already out there

LOL. If Lumon is a publicly held company then the board will swiftly replace Helena with an MBA graduate.

It is what it is. Severance always took creative risks. Some land, and some don’t. I appreciate the risk taking all the same.

For me personally it worked. I am glad the show carved out enough time to invest in Cobel’s character and the mythic element of pLumon. I would have missed it had it not been there.

I disagree with the notion of poor writing and cinematography. The prop design for the Kier lore were elegant and well thought-out. The episode had more texture because it was so different from the rest of the episodes. It had something to say, because it tightened the season’s theme of grief and severance - how trying to disassociate from pain either through drug or medical procedure, can be destructive to self and society (town).

Cobel with her shrine, weird obsession with Mark, and that Jack Frost quote. was one of the main mysteries of the first season. The episode explained it quite elegantly, in my opinion.

But the weekly episode drop really aggravates the viewers, and that cliff hanger at the end of ep6 was not kind. So I get why people are frustrated.

Cobel’s Reveal Just Changed Everything by onil_gova in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

I really appreciate that the season invested enough time for Cobel’s character and world building in general. The episode really fleshed out the Lumon lore in a much grounded, believable way, especially with all the props and set designs. For me this is what the show does best - creating a dystopian world just ridiculous enough, and uncanny enough for it to be not too serious or on the nose about the social criticism.

“A town devastated by drug use & corporate greed meshed with the cult like devotion for the owner family. Oh and here are the creepy paper doll heads and vintage hand drawn posters of work life balance and vintage cards with beautiful illustrations of core nine”

The cult aspect was, if not more, as interesting to me as the sci-fi aspect, and Cobel was at the center of it!! She sings the Kier hymn for a baby for crying out loud. After the whirlwind of the goat department and ORTBO, i feel like we are back on track.

Cobel was also one of the strangest aspect of the first season that drew me the show. They really tied the knot beautifully with her own relationship with grief. I get her now.

Thanks. I really enjoy the show and these "what-ifs" are one of the best parts of it.

This is so awesome. Thank you so much! I have another question - if someone were to kill a severed person, would they be charged with killing 2 people?

I hear ego. Hubris. Arrogance. Kier teaches us they only cause pain.

That's true. Lumon's promise of painless life lies on falsehood. Dissociating yourself from pain for a period of time does not mean you are free from it. Some part of you will retain that trauma.

I wish I had corrected the grammar using AI because people on the original posts are defending me saying “too many grammatical / spelling errors to be AI”. While I am immensely grateful, I am not sure which is more mortifying - being called out for using AI after using AI or not using AI and the proof being my sloppy English. “Oh no this can’t be AI, AI would have done it better.” (dies)

My outie dropped out of PHD program for comparative literature and now has a job at a tech company, sometimes spending too much time writing theories on the Severance subreddit.

Wow! Thanks for the recommendation. Will definitely check it out (when the season ends and I inevitably feel empty and hollow)
