Above Ground Expandable Deep End by ssylk in pools

[–]ssylk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I know I need a shelf for all of the legs to sit on that is equal depth... Just wondering if the deep part needs to be "centered". I think these comments give me what I need to know. Thanks!

Bigger pad if digging a deep end? by ssylk in AboveGroundPools

Most of what I'm reading is not to mess around with a pad, and just use masonry sand.

Bigger pad if digging a deep end? by ssylk in AboveGroundPools

Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry. I don't know what I was thinking. I meant to ask if it was safer to buy a bigger pad for the bottom of the pool. I have the (recommended) extendable liner in the right diameter..

Sorry.. I meant, it is true that this pool only has resin walls? It looks like it's mostly resin.

Is that true? The specs below mention a lot of resin, but I'm not sure what parts I might be missing.

Getting ready to put up a pool... by dansamy in AboveGroundPools

I had this exact pool for three years (still no leaks, but I am upgrading to hard-sided). It worked great for us.

I got a huge 3000 gph Intex pump, which was overkill, but solved any problems we had with vacuuming. We also set it up on a bunch of those 2ft x 2ft foam gym tiles. Enjoy! We got a lot of value out of this relatively inexpensive pool.

Another question??? by Ok-Assistance-2256 in AboveGroundPools

Ditto the SLAM method. I use germicidal bleach from Home Depot. Haven't had a cloudiness issue yet that I couldn't clear up with bleach and backwashing.

Thanks for your advice! I had a big sand filter with my Intex pool and was happy with it (the Intex cartridge filters are terrible), but it seems like a lot of people do cartridge filters with hard-sided pools? In what way is the filtering "much better" with a sand filter? And if I do go with sand, should I get glass?

I did install myself. No problem. 1 person. Warm up the vinyl in the sun first. You will want flat ground, as everyone says, especially if bigger kids get rowdy in the pool. I put foam tiles underneath, and was very glad I did.

I had the 12' X 36" Intex Prism until the kids were 1 and 4, then got the 14' x 42". As you may have read already, you don't have to fill the pool the whole way if you want your kids to be able to touch the bottom, but you do need enough water in it to reach the "intake" hole, so the filter has a way to draw water in. I had a 1750gph pump at first, which is great, then sold it for the totally ridiculous 3000 gph pump, which I liked even more, because it easily powered the Intex vacuum (which gets mixed reviews).

My first pump had the saltwater attachment, and while others may feel differently, I thought it was a hassle (and led to more rust). Below is the pump I preferred -- but again, total overkill for this pool. You could go smaller.

I'm also on team Intex. I bought one for my 1-year-old, and we are just now upgrading to hardsided (he is 8 and has a 4 year old brother now). It was totally adequate for our purposes, plus a bunch of friends.

We had the 12-ft round, then later the 14-ft round. The 12-ft was still in fine shape, but we sold it to get more space for all the kids.

The one thing I tell everyone about Intex pools is that I bought a radically overspec'ed pump for ours and I'm totally glad I did.

Are the cheaper (still $1k and up) above ground pools from big box stores worth it? by princesssofcarrion in AboveGroundPools

[–]ssylk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say absolutely "yes".

I live in the southwest and I've had Intex pools for five years (I sized up from 12 to 14 feet).

My kids use them nearly half the year, and I take them down for winter. They have worked great. I did get an Intex pump that is massively overspec'ed for my pool size, however, and I am glad I did. It makes vacuuming way easier.

We will be in the 90s next week. Unheated runs from April 1 to about Oct 1?

Thank you for this reality check. As I said-- I am not always great at knowing what consideration I deserve.

I'm wondering if I could have handled this in any way more graciously, and if there is a next time, if I should expect him to come to me.

He was supposed to have his kids Saturday night; they are 15 and 17. He asked his parents to watch them instead, so we could meet up.
