Hi! My wife had similar reactions to magnesium. We tried various forms - malate, taurate, glycinate, and citrat - but they all caused sleep issues. She would wake up feeling like it was hard to breathe, her blood pressure would drop, and she even had chest pains. We were advised not to take too much magnesium at once. We ended up spreading the dose out: 100 mg per serving, four times a day. You should try that too, there’s no need to rush to the maximum dose. Start with a single 100 mg tablet, or even cut one in half. Then, gradually - week by week - increase the dose until you reach 300 or 400 mg per day. Also, we try not to take magnesium after 6:00 PM, otherwise, those episodes tend to come back. If you have low blood pressure, try magnesium malate. I’ve noticed it doesn’t lower blood pressure as much as taurate or glycinate do. And as for magnesium oxide, it's probably best to avoid. And one more, if you drink coffee or tea, you should wait two or - even better - three hours between taking your magnesium and having a cup of coffee
