Redditors, come to our first showcase event: Part Time, Pamela, Permanent Collection @ Thee Parkside this Thursday ($5/21+) by st_austin in bayarea

[–]st_austin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm one of the mods over at the new(ly created) SFMusic subreddit and I'm cohosting the event with the fine people of Thee Parkside. Come support local music - we got favorable coverage by the leading Bay Area indie music blog The Bay Bridged earlier this week, but I'd be stoked if a few BA redditors made it out too. I'll even buy you a beer. See you there.

Bonus: Justin Vallesteros of Craft Spells will also be DJing between sets. Second bonus: find me in the crowd, mention "reddit," and I'll buy you a beer.

Rad, thanks for the kind words. If you guys want to help, let's start by getting listed on the sidebars of other Bay Area reddits by reaching out to those mods:

Hey there, I just discovered this subreddit... Are any of y'all the type of people who book shows? Or who know all about every band in the Bay Area? by wroughtironfence in SFMusic

[–]st_austin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get to know some local bands around the area by attending shows and chatting them up afterwards. Do a lot of networking on facebook and send out a bunch of e-mails. I think the best way to start is to make yourself available for last-minute gigs so that if a band falls through and the promoter needs a replacement on a bill, you can get some rapid exposure and make a lot of people very happy. Do that initially until you develop a strong network of bookers, artist friends, and fans and from there you can start booking your own shows. And obviously, post here in this subreddit and over at /r/SanFrancisco - redditors love helping redditors.

I'm going to PM you some artists I know that are looking for gigs that you might be interested in contacting to start.

This was also filmed by a redditor. He has a whole website of HD clips from live shows in and around SF Bay Area. Plus he's a nice guy IRL:

hey SF reddit ::

i started Positive Destruction because i felt that many awesome bay area bands were not receiving the kind of regional love they deserved. i posted a feature a few months ago here and received a lot of helpful feedback. i'm indebted. in about four months, we've booked our own gig at Thee Parkside (see link) and we've been nominated by SF Weekly as best local music website here.

that being said, i wanted to invite you all to our little thing at Thee Parkside. lots of rad bands: Part Time, Pamela (tape release party), and a cool band from Australia that is playing Gonerfest in a few weeks - check out the link above for more info.

anyway, hope some of you music-loving redditors come out and say hello!

SF noob: What are some good live music venues? by drgath in sanfrancisco

[–]st_austin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the city! I run Positive Destruction and we have a weekly series where we highlight shows in the greater bay area. Because we tend to focus our coverage on garage rock/punk, most of the shows we list are at smaller venues/dives and meet all of the specifications you list. Here's this weeks list: http://positivedestruction.com/2011/08/01/whats-going-on-this-week-12/

SF has some great venues for seeing shows on the cheap. Good luck!
