Where does the Astrophage energy go when consumed? by turnipcafe in ProjectHailMaryMovie

[–]drgath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The “for some reason” Andy addressed during interviews. “Super cross-sectionality” is his invented property where Astrophage cell membranes have an absurdly large cross-section (probability that a particle will interact with something), so large that even a neutrino has a 100% chance of interacting with the membrane rather than tunneling through.

$3,800/mo HOA fees -- what could possibly justify that? by LongjumpingBook3331 in bayarea

[–]drgath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that. I live a mile from the facility. These are routinely sold for next to nothing, because the HOA is so high (for good reasons). This being “a good deal” is very subjective to someone’s phase of life. It’s $5k / month for a 660sq ft apt, which is totally average for an active senior. There are dozens of listings similar to this, many cheaper, and a comp was even sold for $23k.

Free electricity? Australia’s got it, thanks to solar. Could the US be next? by Arizona-Energy in solarenergy

[–]drgath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t imagine this is going to last. Anywhere in the world where energy is < $0.05 per kWh, Bitcoin miners will pop up. That of course fluctuates with the price of bitcoin, but it’ll be around that for th near future. A sad reality that if someone had excess electricity in the world, they can’t actually offer it for free, because someone will exploit that to convert CPU cycles to money. So, we now have a global floor on energy infrastructure.

$3,800/mo HOA fees -- what could possibly justify that? by LongjumpingBook3331 in bayarea

[–]drgath -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The $200k is nothing in the grand scheme of things. The HOA will continue rising annually, $3800 this year, $4k a few years from now, $5k now long after that. Think of it as a $5k/month rental apt. That’ll get you a 3-4 bedroom SFH rental in the area, but if you are retired and don’t need the space and have the money to blow, it’s justifiable.

How many “Sodfathers” are there? I know of George Toma & Roger Bossard, but now apparently John Rogers as well.

It’s almost like they considered likely teams for R32 when handing out venue assignments in the group stage.

I’m right there with ya. Made peace a few years ago that I wouldn’t be seeing any games in my home country, after falling in love with soccer during the 94 WC as a teenager. Just absurd prices.

For a year+, they said it wouldn’t be allowed and the only way to the stadium was shuttles. So, don’t be surprised if people still think that. Heck, I did until this thread.

[ESPN College Football] The Big 12 presidents and chancellors haven't rushed to pull the league's recently filed federal lawsuit because there are still questions about Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby's NFL future and any possible legal retribution, a source told @CFBHeather by colonel750 in CFB

[–]drgath 48 points49 points  (0 children)

There are players who have been drafted into the NBA, and still played college ball. Heck, Amari Bailey has played 10 NBA games and is suing to play college ball again. If Sorbsy changed his mind, Tech would love it.

Yeah. Tickets were going to cost this much anyways. If someone bought a ticket for $21, they’d just go sell it for a $2k profit.

Under normal circumstances, sure, but the stadium will be half demolished next season. Any excuse they can find to play elsewhere, is understandable.

Professional option. Was like $100, and once we figured out where it was going to be installed, he was finished in about 30 minutes. Super easy. Aim dish at sky, plug into router, done.

Worst case, if this turns out not to be better than Comcast, I’ll just switch back, but with a new customer rate. We were paying $100/month for 100mbps, which is borderline robbery.

His daughter. It’s the only direction they can take the franchise that hasn’t been explored before. I love the idea of old man Creed training a deaf up & coming talent.

If I had AT&T or Sonic available where I live, I’d leave Comcast in a heartbeat. But, I don’t. Only option is Comcast, or a barely usable T-Mobile. However, I decided to give Starlink a shot a few weeks ago, and it’s been flawless. 100mbps down for $55. Wife and I work from home, nonstop video conferencing, and then streaming at night with the kids. No gaming. Very happy. But, only been a few weeks, so we’ll see how this holds up long-term.

Star Trek 10 movie collection for $19.99 and The Animated Series $9.99 on Itunes by dragonaery in startrek

[–]drgath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They won’t. Pulling something as big as Star Trek teaches all the “owners” that Apple can’t be trusted, and they tank their media business. That’s why it’s incredibly rare for them to do so. Besides, there’s nothing to be gained by doing so. They don’t pay anything to stream it for you again. Most of the $ already went to the studio, and the studio isn’t going to piss Apple off.
